Product Description
Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, you’ll find reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot, and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. We’re very proud to introduce Kindle and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. - The Amazon Kindle Team

Customer Reviews
Amazing
I bought the Kindle for my granddaughter and she loves it. She had it for about nine months and the screen went blank, I called for service and I had a brand new one in 24 hours. I do wish the Kindle had school books, I think it would save on her back and we would never have a problem with a book being left at school when it is homework time.
Great all the way around
I could not be happier with my Kindle. I carry it in my purse so any down time I have I can just pull it out and continue to read whatever book I'm reading at the time. I can not say enough about how easy and wonderful I find it.
However, I have a second issue to talk about. On Sunday I was reading and shut off my Kindle to go get coffee. I was gone doe about 20 minutes (I did other stuff, too). I came back and turned my Kindle on and it went crazy. All I could get was some lines (not word lines). The next day I called Kindle support. Believe it or not, I didn't have to sit on hold until I grew old. My call was picked up immediately and the guy I talked helped me to try a few things. Nothing worked so he said that he would send another one right out (usually means a rush of two weeks). The new one came the next day. He sent all instructions for the return of the old one by e-mail and also had a web site to print the label back (no charge to me). I wish the old one had not messed up but, we do live in a tech. society where things sometimes mess up. On top of all the reasons I have for loving my Kindle, knowing that someone is there to answer the phone if there's a problem shows a very all around great product.
Pop Culture on Toast
Like "educational TV" Kindle has succumbed to presenting the essence of literary claptrap gleaned from book sales. Significant and serious books are not to be found. Market values are seldom right in literature. Is there no one serious at Kindle? The only redeeming quality is the availability of Gutenberg for down loading.
