don't expect crystal clear picture3
I bought this player for one reason, to play DVDs when I am running on the treadmill. Out of the box, very easy to install, you unwrapp the power cord, plug it to the wall and to the DC input on the unit. slide the POWER switch to ON, push the OPEN button on the player, insert a DVD and it starts playing. For a 9" screen this is a pretty good price, but again do not expect the best quality picture. I would rate the picture as average at best. The sound of the unit is not very powerful, basically I had to either put my headphones on, or just activate the subtitles. The unit is light and the screen opens to 180 which is nice since I don't have to do any taping or velcro-ing to have steady on the treadmill. Again, do not expect a very solidly built unit. But for what I need it does the job.

I purchased this unit for my husband as a Christmas gift. He was initially unable to get the unit to play a disk. There is a password code (noted in instructions) that needs to be entered during set-up. We do not know if he initially missed this step or not. However, after we went back through the progressive set-up instructions, the unit worked perfectly. Sound via speakers is quite adequate, as was picture quality on the wide screen. He viewed a DVD using headphones, and sound quality was fine. Unit has not yet been used in a vehicle. A negative may be that this unit will play only Region 1 DVD's - we have not yet looked in stores to see if that will be an issue or not. For the money, both my husband and I are quite pleased with this product.

A cooperative 3-yr-old: priceless4
We bought this player in preparation for two long drives (12+ hours) this summer with our 3-year-old. I picked this player because it was inexpensive and came with everything we would need (chargers, case, headphones) and it has served its function well.

Player: The player has never given us any problems. It played from day one and the picture quality seems good (at least to me). (Although see battery item below).

Remote Control: Works fine. Only problem had to do with the case (see below).

Headphones: The headphones were certainly not super high quality. They're comfortable to wear - my daughter, who had never worn headphones before, had no problems (although they didn't fit my really big head very well). The sound was fine from my perspective and plenty loud. They are, however, pretty cheaply made. My daughter managed to break one pair although I was able to repair it with a screw.

Carry/car seat mounting case: The case is of decent build and had room to carry all the cables, the headphones and a small stack of movies (in CaseLogic sleeves). My primary complaint is that the design of the player is such that the piece of material designed to support the bottom of the player (secondary support) covers the remote control receiver. So we had to undo that portion of the support, leaving only the strap across the hinge of the player, which admittedly worked fine. If I was doing a lot of moving around with the player (e.g., airport) I'm not sure that I would completely trust the case to hold the player in as it's not that securely held.

Battery: I followed all the instructions regarding charging the battery and we used it almost exclusively with the AC adapter in the car. However, after the first trip we noticed that the battery no longer held a charge - zero. In the beginning, when we turned off the car (cutting the AC power) the player would keep going. But on the second long trip, the player just cut off immediately when the car was turned off. I called Audiovox today, and to their credit, it was extremely easy to speak to a human (~1 minute on hold) and she was very helpful and said, since it's still under warranty (only 90 days) they would send me a pre-paid shipping label to send it back for repair/replacement. That's still pending, so there's still plenty of opportunity for their rating to get demoted.

Overall, it's been a good purchase (assuming the warranty claim works out satisfactorily). Definitely a good value for what we needed. I'll certainly update this if the claim doesn't pan out well.
