Cain the Dark is an infamous warrior. His amazing leadership on the battlefield and lack of mercy for his enemies has his name feared throughout the country... so why does someone of his stature continue to serve an insignificant feudal lord? Does it have something to do with the beautiful little thief who entered his life? A dark, gothic yaoi trilogy set in Medieval Italy.

Blurred
The most glaring deficiency in this book has more to do with the publication than anything. Yaoi Press is a small publisher, and this is a translated book. I understand that. But that does NOT excuse the extremely poor quality of the images themselves. The pages seem to have copied exceedingly badly, with everything blurry and indistinct. There are even a few pages that aren't like this at all, and the text isn't blurry! Arrgh! I can't believe this went to print this way!
That being said, I DO intend on buying the other volume... if only because I want to know where it goes, and the artist was excellent in Winter Demon 2. This is obviously a much older work, however, and the quality is not as high.
advise you all
I bought this comic book lookin its amazing cover. I didn't pretend a lot about the story but I was really surprised about it.
The story is very interlaced and precise and the historical reconstruction is particurally interesting.
The characters' costruction is really amazing and the chemistry between them is magic. What about the draws I thinks they're wonderful and evocative. The think wondered me is the fantastic cover for the volume one and two. The colors are splendid. In summary a master piece that I advise to all yaoi's lovers.
Intense and Subdued!
Ok, after reading Winter Demon 2 I totally had to get this book since it was by the same artists. This art is definately the same style as WD2, but you can tell that it's much older. It's amazing if you compare this with WD2. Their art now is much more emotive and detailed, but the Cain art is really free and stylish. It's not often you get to see how artists change over the years. I also want to say that the artists have a great style that is 100% manga style, but beholden to NO ONE. I have no idea who their influences are. They're totally in their own category, totally original and really good.
Cain is not an easy read. The writers are actually expecting you to think with this one. I might have not appreciated it except a teacher of mine read it and when I got the opinion of the book from someone who never read manga before I was able to read it again and actually 'GET IT.' Cain doesn't have much text. The story is in the art. The art is telling the story. If you're used to reading manga like crazy, like me, you get into the habit of not paying much attention to panels that don't have text in it. You're automatically skimming, skimming, and you don't stop skimming until you see words. Don't do that with this book! OMG, when I actually paid attention to what was going on between the words I got to see how well-crafted this story is. It's like a really good play. I want to say Shakespear, but I've never read Shakespear...however my teacher who read it did mention that.
The story is about a mysterious warrior who was looking for a certain boy for reasons we don't know yet, and finds him. There's kind of a shota feel going on with the warrior and the boy. There's also some intrigue going on with the church. I'm not going to spell it all out here. I think that this is definately a series to get into. The first volume was setting up a lot, and I know there's going to be one of those stories with lots of 'OMG!' kinds of twists coming up. I noticed again that it has a picture on the edge that looks like it will make a big picture when you put the other books side by side. Like a spine picture.
Give this series a chance. Read it slow. Don't ignore the panels without text in it. Like I said, this isn't a fluff read. You have to use your brain a little, and it's worth doing that.
I'm going to link to their other book, oh and also they did the second story in Winter Demon 1 (I'm pretty sure) and they look like the artists for the next one too.
