“Healthy people come in all sizes and shapes. Regular participation in moderate intensity physical activity makes important contributions to health and well-being whether you are tall or short, skinny or fat, or young or old. We should focus on eating a healthful diet and being physically active every day, and not worry quite so much about the numbers of a scale.—Steven Blair, Ph.D., Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research

  • Emphasizes the pleasure and enjoyment of an active, healthy life, rather than concentrating on losing weight
  • Describes walking, dancing, swimming, bicycling, aerobic activity, and includes valuable safety tips

    Re-discover the joy of movement!5
Intimidated by the tiny chicks you see in aerobics classes? Fear no more! While the fitness industry implies otherwise, large women, too, have the right to exercise and be fit. This book will inspire and empower you to move your body-if you want to. The authors are adamant in their stance that large women have the same right as anyone else to work out or choose not to. The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying your body. While describing various activities, the book also discusses the special needs larger women face while exercising, such as supportive bras and sturdy shoes. There is no reason to hide in the house and avoid life just because you are larger than someone else! This book is gentle, encouraging, and eye-opening, and-you may have guessed this already-written by two large women, one who teaches aerobics and one who loves sports.

Excellent book, but beware of the quality!3
While I don't have anything to add regarding the health benefits of the book (other than to say it's inspired me to ge moving again), I wanted to warn potential buyers that the book is a "Backinprint.com" edition - which means the text looks as if it was reproduced from photocopies or faxed pages. Additionally, this quality results in horrible, terrible image quality -- which is painfully evident on the front page of the book...

Pat Lyons And Debby Burgard Rock!5
Pat Lyons and Debby burguard have written an easily applied, easily understandable throughly knowledgable book about the fitness issues facing fat/large/big women. They are total believers that fat/large women can be both fit and fat. The focus here is on the attainable and on fun! I loved this book and I love Pat and Debby for writing it and for practicing what they preach (altho' really, they don't preach at all). Well worth the time and money. It encourages, gives hope and practical suggestions.
