Better than nothing (semi-useful)3
I was just looking for something different than what this offers. The print is miniscule so you either have to have superman vision or be under 21 to easily read it. (Unless you carry a magnifying glass around NY with you...along with your umbrella, metro card, one dollar bills, cap, water bottle, room key, ID, garmin, cell phone, etc.) It has thousands of listings; mostly of places I wasn't looking for. It IS small and manageable. Something to read on the subway.

Must-have for NY Trip!5
This little book was absolutely invaluable during recent trip to NYC. Very well-organized, great details, great maps. Although we really were tourists, this book saved our bacon on more than one occasion as we were able to find needed items/locations with very little trouble. It's like having a little concierge in your pocket at all times!

Not for tourists ... great for getting the local flavor!5
I used this book as a tourist (less than 72 hrs in the city qualifies, right?), and could not have been more pleased. The size of the book is perfect for all-day toting around, and I like the scale of the maps that allow for a lot of detailed local information to be presented. The first half of the book is 1/4 mile scaled maps that meticulously show absolutely everything you could ever need to find - ATMs, coffee shops, farmers market, etc. The second half goes into more detail about specific places and items of interest - arts & entertainment, transit, parks & places. And every page is stuffed to the margins with the authors' dead-on suggestions and commentary.

If you just want to go to Times Square and the Empire State Building, you do not need this book. If you want to experience more of the local flavor (a genuine NYC bagel cannot be beat!), then this book is for you. If nothing else, it's a fascinating read, and who has ever said that about a key map? I'll be buying a new NFT any time I visit one of the cities they cover.
