By an Amazon.com customer
Bad Luck and Trouble (Jack Reacher)Bad Luck and Trouble (Jack Reacher) by Lee Child
Buy new: $17.16 / Used from: $0.02
3 stars - Not his best. I can't stand when non-computer saavy writers try to write about the internet and USB drives, but still fun to read.
Conventions of War (Dread Empire's Fall)Conventions of War (Dread Empire's Fall) by Walter Jon Williams
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.50
4 stars - I liked this whole series. It was a bit adolescent but it kept me reading the whole way through with good characters and good action. I liked these books better than the Honor Harrington series.
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and DenimDress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $2.40
3 stars - pretty good - I liked his concepts of real estate as a marriage revitalizer, and anything about his brother. The european santa story was pretty funny too. a couple of times I laughed out loud, a couple of stories were kind of boring.
Senior Year: A Father, A Son, and High School BaseballSenior Year: A Father, A Son, and High School Baseball by Dan Shaughnessy
Buy new: $18.00 / Used from: $0.03
1 star - I guess I just I just couldn't get interested in this guy's story. I don't really do baseball. I didn't get past 50 pages. I think you need to like baseball to like this book.
Freakonomics [Revised and Expanded]: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of EverythingFreakonomics [Revised and Expanded]: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt
Buy new: $18.45 / Used from: $10.00
4 stars - I wish I could come up with the hypothesis and the data analyses to test the hypotheses that this guy comes up with. I loved the strategies for detecting cheaters, corruption in sumo wrestling.
ThirteenThirteen by Richard K. Morgan
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $4.95
4 stars - I love everything this guy writes, they are starting to get pretty similar and all blend together with this book. very sophisticated blade runner type private eye. not easy to see through the thriller plot, and nice way of wrapping things up.
A Short History of Nearly EverythingA Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $7.44
3 stars - I listened to the audio book of this one, the production was great. The first 1/3 of the book would rate 5 stars, and the second 2/3 rates a 2 or 3 stars. He covers all the sciences, but the universe and the physics stuff (and the characters he talks about) are the best part of this book for me.
A Fighter's Heart: One Man's Journey Through the World of FightingA Fighter's Heart: One Man's Journey Through the World of Fighting by Sam Sheridan
Buy new: $13.69 / Used from: $3.19
3 stars - I liked hearing about the training regiments that this guy went through leading up to his fights but I found that much of the book (outside of fight training) was not quite riveting.
Red Cat (John March Mysteries)Red Cat (John March Mysteries) by Peter Spiegelman
Buy new: $15.61 / Used from: $0.45
4 stars - cool private eye solves a pretty interesting mystery
NecromancerNecromancer by Gordon R. Dickson
Buy used from: $0.01
2 stars - I read this because Dickson's books were talked about next to Heinlein's starship troopers, and haldeman's forever war which I liked. This is an early book in the Childe Cycle but it was too old, and had a 60s treatment of male female relationships which always irritates me.
Dorsai (Childe Cycle)Dorsai (Childe Cycle) by Gordon R. Dickson
Buy used from: $0.10
3 stars - of the 3 dickson books I just read, this was the best. Still not as good as other books that talk about soldiering in space and training and advancement like Starship Troopers, or Forever war, or Old Man's War.
Soldier, Ask Not: A Novel in The Chide Cyle (Dorsai/Childe Cycle)Soldier, Ask Not: A Novel in The Chide Cyle (Dorsai/Childe Cycle) by Gordon R. Dickson
Buy used from: $0.01
3 stars - I finished it but wish I had been reading something else. look to my other reviews of dickson. I think it won a Hugo which is the only reason I read it.
Tuf VoyagingTuf Voyaging by George R. R. Martin
Buy used from: $4.95
3 stars - I love Martin's Fire and Ice series so I'm reading all his other stuff. I liked the plot adventures, and I think he modeled this after Vance's demon princes stories (seemed similar in style), but I was actually kind of annoyed by Tuf's character.
Sharp Objects: A NovelSharp Objects: A Novel by Gillian Flynn
Buy new: $11.20 / Used from: $2.16
Heaven's Net Is Wide (The Tales of the Otori)Heaven's Net Is Wide (The Tales of the Otori) by Lian Hearn
Buy new: $17.79 / Used from: $4.75
Skin Trade (Night Visions, 5)Skin Trade (Night Visions, 5) by Stephen King
Buy used from: $0.01
3 starts - This was a short story by George R. R. Martin. I liked the general premise, but I would have preferred it to have ended with a little more explanation. I guess in a novella, there isn't quite as much room for explanation.
Liege-Killer (The Paratwa Saga, Book 1)Liege-Killer (The Paratwa Saga, Book 1) by Christopher Hinz
Buy used from: $3.00
Dauntless (The Lost Fleet, Book 1)Dauntless (The Lost Fleet, Book 1) by Jack Campbell
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.99
3 stars - I like the tactics and military sci fi, but the characters are flat. Not much unexpected happens.
Fearless (The Lost Fleet, Book 2)Fearless (The Lost Fleet, Book 2) by Jack Campbell
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.21
3 stars - same as fearless.
Seeker (Alex Benedict)Seeker (Alex Benedict) by Jack McDevitt
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.15
4 stars - Sci Fi detective story. Tracks down a lost colony. I think I know why it won a hugo or nebula.
The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean WarThe Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War by David Halberstam
Buy new: $23.10 / Used from: $8.59
5 stars - If you like war history, this was a good book. Gives some detailed accounts, as well as good background history.
HeroHero by Perry Moore

4 stars - a fun quick read. this is a great genre, and I enjoyed the super heros in this book.
A Thousand Words For Stranger (10th Anniversary Edition)A Thousand Words For Stranger (10th Anniversary Edition) by Julie E. Czerneda
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.99
2 stars - a little bit to "romance" for my tastes, but could be considered an interesting sci-fi mystery.
Colder Than Hell: A Marine Rifle Company at Chosin Reservoir (Bluejacket Paperback Book Series)Colder Than Hell: A Marine Rifle Company at Chosin Reservoir (Bluejacket Paperback Book Series) by Joseph R. Owen
Buy new: $19.95 / Used from: $5.00
5 stars - I really enjoyed this 1st person account of the korean war. As you can see I got on a minor Korean war obsession starting with "The Coldest Winter".
The Marines of Autumn: A Novel of the Korean WarThe Marines of Autumn: A Novel of the Korean War by James Brady
Buy new: $12.55 / Used from: $0.30
2 stars - I didn't find anything new in this fictionalization of historic events that weren't in the other two books.
Courageous (The Lost Fleet, Book 3)Courageous (The Lost Fleet, Book 3) by Jack Campbell
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $4.39
2 stars - I liked the first 2 books. this one was weak, and I may not bother with any other sequels.

Buy new: $15.61 / Used from: $9.49
Brotherly LoveBrotherly Love by Pete Dexter
Buy used from: $0.01
3 stars - I like this guy's stories. I found myself knowing the characters pretty well and having disturbing dreams about organized crime after this.
The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, Day 1)The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, Day 1) by Patrick Rothfuss
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.98
5 stars - Its nice to finally find a well written and not too silly epic fantasy writer.
Hunter's RunHunter's Run by George R. R. Martin

I just couldn't get into the writing style.
The Dragon Never SleepsThe Dragon Never Sleeps by Glen Cook
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $2.50
I loved the beginning. He set the stage well with some great ideas, but I just got bored towards the end and couldn't finish it.
Foot Soldier: A Combat Infantryman's War in EuropeFoot Soldier: A Combat Infantryman's War in Europe by Jr., Roscoe C. Blunt
Buy new: $15.25 / Used from: $0.50
I didn't really like this much. Too much of a personal story, about someone I probably wouldn't have clicked with.
An Army at Dawn : The War in Africa, 1942-1943, Volume One of the Liberation Trilogy (The Liberation Trilogy, Vol 1)An Army at Dawn : The War in Africa, 1942-1943, Volume One of the Liberation Trilogy (The Liberation Trilogy, Vol 1) by Rick Atkinson

Beguilement (The Sharing Knife, Book 1)Beguilement (The Sharing Knife, Book 1) by Lois Mcmaster Bujold
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.82
Good beginning, but a little too romancy for me. And the old guy, young girl thing is sketchy. I probably won't read the rest of these.
HeartsickHeartsick by Chelsea Cain
Buy new: $5.99
not bad. a fun quick read. freaky sick antagonist, not entirely predictable.
Nothing to Lose (Jack Reacher Novels)Nothing to Lose (Jack Reacher Novels) by Lee Child
Buy new: $17.82 / Used from: $5.50
Weakest jack reacher book yet. There was no motivation, no pending danger, weak supporting characters. I almost didn't like it.
A Shadow in Summer (The Long Price Quartet)A Shadow in Summer (The Long Price Quartet) by Daniel Abraham
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $5.48
This, along with Acacia and Name of the Wind were 3 books receiving 4 stars from "BookMarks" magazine. I liked this the least of the 3, but it was still good enough for me to look forward to reading the rest of the quartet.
