a blast from the past
One of the prizes in my record collection is the limited edition 2-10" LP set documenting the Man band and friends December 19,1972 Christmas party. The acts are The Flying Aces, Ducks Deluxe, The Jets (Plum Hollis,Deke Leonard, Martin Ace, and Terry Williams, NOT the Samoan pop group), Plum Crazy (Dave Edmunds, Mickey Gee, Ace, and Williams), Help Yourself with Deke Leonard and B. J. Cole, and of course Man, with Dave Edmunds sitting in on slide guitar. These discs exude a tremendously good vibe, you can tell everyone was having great fun. Musical highlights for me are the two extended numbers by Help Yourself with Leonard and Cole. I didn't care much for Help Yourself's records, but here they make a smashing backup band for Deke. I suppose the reissuing of this music on CD makes my collector's item LP set less valuable to some, but that's okay, I would never part with it.
