Jessy and Tom like nothing more than bouncing and playing on their big blue sofa - until one day it falls apart. This is a fabulous book with tactile properties.

All of Oliver Jeffers books are magical, but this one about a boy who loves eating books is truly wonderful.

The story of a snail who hitch-hikes a trip round the world on the back of a whale - and saves his life in return. Gorgeous illustrations and an excellent cadence for reading aloud.

This has been a favorite for a few years now. My son really gets into it and finds it hysterically funny.
Ugly FishUgly Fish by Kara LaReau
Buy new: $10.88 / Used from: $5.57
The story of an ugly fish who doesn't want to share his tank - until it's too late. This is a good book to read aloud because you can do different voices, including a wicked Borat impersonation.
That Rabbit Belongs to Emily BrownThat Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown by Cressida Cowell
Buy new: $11.55 / Used from: $1.42
Another wonderful book to read aloud. The Queen wants Emily Brown's stuffed rabbit and sends various members of her armed forces to retrieve it. The illustrations are gorgeous also.
Small Knight and GeorgeSmall Knight and George by Ronda Armitage
Buy new: $11.69 / Used from: $1.38
Small Knight is sent out by his parents to slay his first dragon (a prospect that he finds fairly terrifying). Instead he meets a very small and friendly dragon called George and they become friends. This is a very sweet story and my son really likes it.
Eat Your Peas: A Daisy BookEat Your Peas: A Daisy Book by Kes Gray
Buy new: $8.76 / Used from: $1.97
Daisy doesn't want to eat her peas, despite numerous bribes by her mother. In the end they find a happy compromise. This is a story about negotiation from a child's viewpoint and it's very amusing to read. Both my boys have loved this one.
I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato (Charlie & Lola)I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato (Charlie & Lola) by Lauren Child
Buy used from: $5.00
Lola is a fussy eater and her sister Charlie has to use her imagination to coax her into eating. This is a very amusing book which works on two levels - children see through the subterfuge but also enjoy it.
