Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
When Willie Nelson's "Crazy" has been done with aching perfection by such an all-time great as Patsy Cline, it takes cajones not only to do it again, but to make it the title track to an album. Even if--perhaps especially if--you are Julio Iglesias. But it was in fact with Willie that Iglesias truly crossed over to mainstream audiences with the microwave rotation and top-10 status of "To All the Girls I've Loved Before." And as over the top as he can be, Iglesias keeps good company: Willie and Dolly Parton (who also duets with him on Crazy's "When You Tell Me That You Love Me"), as well as Sting and Art Garfunkel, who also step in for guest vocals. And while "Mammy Blue" strays far from Iglesias's best material, he is at the top of his game dueting with Lucia Calla on "Caruso," and, vocally, he surprisingly rises above a questionable arrangement of "Song of Joy" with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Ambrosian Singers. --Paige La Grone
Customer Reviews
THIS IS THE BEST CD OF ROMANTIC MUSIC!
This is my all time FAVORITE CD of ROMANTIC music. Crazy is SUPERB. I have owned this CD since it was first released and I've never tired of it! If it is romantic music that you are looking for--GO FOR IT!
Let your spirit soar with the sound of his voice!
This is a great album fill with great ballads. Julio is able to bring so much love and passion to any song that he sings. I had this album for years and I'm still in love with it. My mom is a major fan of his and she use to play his older records on the weekends back in the day.
Whether he's covering Sting or Santana, Iglesias manages to deliver the material with the perfect combination of sentiment and showmanship. Some songs, such as "Crazy," the ballad originally made famous by Patsy Cline, is romantic, he is remaking an already famous song and many will be surprised, they may find that Julio is able to present a beautiful love song that will melt every heart. "Mammy Blue," is very nice and it touches the heart. The album is not short on guest stars; Dolly Parton's vocals soar on the duet "When You Tell Me That You Love Me." For the contemporary version of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy," the entire London Symphony Orchestra along with the Ambrosian Singers provides a rousing, festive counterpoint to Iglesias' laid-back lead vocals.
Overall this album is difficult to fault, though. It is beautifully scored, easily accessible to any listener, and performed to perfection in Iglesias' inimitable style. It's liable to sound familiar from the first time you listen to it; and indeed, even if you haven't heard the album in its entirety before, you've probably heard most of the tracks on a commercial, a radio station, or a compilation of romantic fireside songs.
Go ahead and put this album on and let your spirit soar with the music. Happy listening.
Beautifully done
A romantic and uplifting selection of music sung by one of the sexiest voices of our day...buy it and listen over and over and over....
