With a capacity of 2.36 ounces, this sleek machine employs stainless-steel blades to grind enough coffee beans for brewing up to twelve 5-ounce cups of percolator, drip, or espresso coffee. The grinder can be filled with beans and the amount of beans it grinds can be selected with a dial that's calibrated by number of cups desired: 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12. During operation, lights above the on/off button flash on the grind selector, indicating when the grind is coarse, medium, or fine, permitting the grinder to be shut off when the desired grind is achieved. The grind selector displays the words "coarse," "medium," and "fine" along with the brewing method appropriate for each grind: respectively, "perc" (percolator), "drip," and "espresso." Clad in gleaming black plastic with matte silver accents, the hourglass-shaped grinder is thoroughly contemporary in appearance and has a rubberized grip and push-in cord storage. was grand for a very short time
This item, affectionately named R2D2, worked like a champ with all the bells and whistles, well, actually lights and dials for about 5 weeks and then just stopped. ... Thus I'm profoundly disappointed - and now without any grinder. In fact, given its short life, the 2 star rating is incredibly generous.

Good grinder
This is a great little grinder. The first thing I noticed about it is that it's deep. My old Salton grinder was extremely shallow, so it was impossible to get the grounds out without spilling all over the place. I had no such problems with this grinder.

The grounds tend to spin off to the side of the grinder. When I am done I tap it against the table a few times, and they fall into the center will. I can then transfer the grounds without any problems. I am also able to get almost all the grounds out, unlike the Salton.

Nice features include a tuck-away cord and a cap that allows you to meaure how many cups you are grinding for.

A couple of features I have questions about: one is that there is a very short time between "coarse", "medium", and "fine". Could a couple of seconds really make the difference? Secondly as I mentioned before the grounds tend to spin off to the side away from the blade. I suppose this could be a feature of the device (spun off grounds could indicate they're "done"). It does, after all, ground the coffee beans extremely well, and I never had any problems with the grounds thave have spun off.

Best small grinder
To grind my spices fresh, I have gone through many coffee grinders and was never satisfied with any until I discovered DeLonghi coffee grinder. The blades are so low, close to the base that no spice, even as tiny as a cardamom, escapes. The spices are ground very fine or coarse if you wish. I highly recommend this grinder for spices. I have not used it for coffee beans.
