This is the best Estes
Yesterday was a sad day. A rocket eating tree took my Estes Big Daddy and would not give it back. This has always been one of my favorite rockets, which is why I am here ordering another one. This rocket flies well and is truly exciting to launch. As a second or third kit project, this is the one to get when you are ready to move up to something a little bigger. (I do NOT recommend the Executioner, Estes' other big rocket, as it is a little too much rocket for the recommended Estes engines, and tends to fly like a drunken pig. Of course, that is just my opinion, your mileage may vary.)

Now for a cool modification ... if you REALLY want to turn heads at the next club launch, get the Aerotech RMS 24/40 hobby line reloadable hardware. Then, load it with an E18-4. There are two changes you MUST make to the rocket for this to work well. First, add 20 grams of weight to the tip of the nose cone (epoxy and ball bearings work well). Second, you can't use the Estes paper wadding. Get yourself a Nomex flame protector or something similar. It is important to note that once you make these changes, you can NOT go back to Estes engines ... the rocket is now too heavy for them.

This is what I was flying when the tree got my Big Daddy. And I have to tell you, even the old hands at the launch were going 'What the %&!# was that" when it took off.
