![]() | Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
Buy new: Too low to display / Used from: $809.95 FX format - great auto white balance - 720p video. Its a great camera. Lighter than its D700, D3 friends. I find it to be the right balance of features and price.

![]() | Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body only)
Buy new: $718.95 / Used from: $500.00 I know, there are fancy cameras out there that have more megapixels, more do-hickeys and more everything. BUT, you have to match the tool to the job. They are cost effective, will take older style lenses and generally just get the job done. Buy two of them. You need to have a backup camera. Make sure you sync the clocks!

![]() | Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $2,109.93 / Used from: $1,750.00 A long lens with some kind of vibration reduction is essential. Weddings always occur in poorly lit or weirdly lit churches, halls and other venues. The long focal length and fast f2.8 helps blur backgrounds and flatten the image. A very handy lens.

![]() | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $124.95 / Used from: $94.99 I've worked with both the 1.4 and the 1.8 and I can't see any reason to pay the extra money for the 1.4. On a D80, a 50mm lens will get you to about 75mm. Its a good all-around lens. Fast, good focal length, compact and very cost effective. When I shoot a wedding I have two cameras, one has a 70-200 on it, the other has a 50mm 1.8.

![]() | Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon SLR Cameras
Buy new: $749.00 This is as wide as I go. I tend to not use it all that much. In fact, I only use it when I think: "you know, I have the 15mm, I should use it more." Now other photographers will tell you that wide is the only way to go. All a matter of style. It is useful for taking shots of the whole inside of a church- usually from a balcony.

![]() | Nikon 45mm f/2.8D ED PC-E Micro Nikkor Lens
Buy new: $1,849.95 Here it is folks, the next "cool" thing in wedding photography. Think lens baby on steroids. Just like the Orbis - this is a toy and you better be able to have it pay for itself. A much cheaper alternative is to look on the web for a Kiev made version. Because you are using it as a toy or trick, the cost savings will outweigh and drop in quality between the Nikon and Kiev versions.
|
![]() | Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $439.00 D80s are DX cameras - and this lens is a perfect fit with them. 1.4 is great if you are in love with shallow DOF like I am. Good stuff all around. Don't listen to the reviewers that say it front focuses - they don't know what they are doing (even if they say the do).

![]() | Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $1,229.95 / Used from: $1,079.00 I am truly in love with this lens. It should have been the first lens I bought - but the price scared me away. Between this, my 30mm and my 70-200mm I could shoot a whole wedding. It all comes down to style. I like tight crops, full frame. I still carry my 24mm and 15mm but they get used very rarely.

![]() | Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR [Vibration Reduction] DX Lens
Buy used from: $615.00 Okay - so I own this lens and I have put it on this list only because it gets talked about a lot on the web. Ken Rockwell seems to think this lens is the greatest ever. I'm going to disagree. It's a nice lens. I gave it to my wife to take pictures of our daughter, but for wedding work its too slow. 5.6 - ECK! I'll pass.

![]() | 1.6X Sensor Cleaning Kit w/SensorWand® & Rocket Blower
Keep your sensor clean. It will make your job much easier.
|
![]() | Eva-dry Renewable EDV-300/E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifer
Buy new: $14.96 There is no reason to carry this in your bag while you are shooting a wedding, but once you get home and you put the bag on the shelf, throw this guy in there to keep moisture at bay.

![]() | Wolverine Data 7080 FlashPac 80 GB Portable Digital Pictures and Data Storage
Cheap, easy . . .everything I want in a backup system. Once I fill an SD card, the lock is engaged on the card and it goes into my wolverine. Now the transfer rate on this thing is not the fastest by any means, but I haven't had this be a problem yet. Once I fill a card, lock it and start the transfer, the whole thing goes in my bag and just does its thing while I work on filling the next card.

![]() | Sandisk 8GB EXTREME III SDHC SD Card Class 6 (SDSDX3-8192, Plastic Case)
Buy new: $30.93 / Used from: $29.99 Take these guys along with you. When you fill one you can pop it into your Wolverine for backup. To have the Wolverine accept the cards you need to update the firmware (easy).

![]() | Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $219.88 / Used from: $199.99 I have three of these with me all the time. Why? They work well. When I am photographing the group shots I put two of them on light stands with umbrellas. They are triggered with PocketWizards. NOTE: you cannot hook a Pocket Wizard directly up to a SB-600 you need a hotshoe adapter. You can to have a way to attach your flash to the stand anyway, just make sure it has a PC port on it.
|
![]() | Orbis Ring Flash Attachment, for Use with Existing Flash / Strobe, "One Size" Fits Most Flashes
Buy new: $198.89 This is a toy - an expensive toy at that, but it does wonders at creating unique light. I have this in my bag and sometimes I pull it out and sometimes I leave it. With any toy, you have to be able to make it pay for itself.
|
![]() | Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2
Buy new: $260.95 / Used from: $199.99 Lightroom is the gold standard for process wedding images. When you have 1500 raw images to work with, nothing is faster or better. There are a million free presets out there. Lightroom 2 is much better than the first edition.
|
![]() | The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby
Buy new: $29.69 / Used from: $28.50 If you haven't worked with Lightroom, get yourself a nice book to introduce you to how the program works. Scott Kelby is the PS guru. Listen to him.

![]() | Boda Dry, Fully Weatherproof Ballistics Cordura Lens System Case (9.5" x 7.5" x 11.5") - Holds 4+ Lenses & Accessories - Black
I do love my Boda Dry. No more trying to fit cameras inside of a bag. Just load this up with lenses and off you go. Very comfy to wear -- all my big camera bags now sit a home and miss me.
