We got this seat for our 3rd child, after owning 2 Britax Marathons. I have a love/hate for this seat. On one hand, it has some great features. The way you tighten the belt is with two turning knobs at the base of the seat. It's so easy! That's really the best part. The fabric is nice and soft, it has a removable insert for a smaller baby that you can remove and also a head rest (more like a pillow) that's removable. It does have a cup holder, but I have yet to find a bottle or cup that actually stays in there- it's worthless. The installation is great for LATCH facing forward, but HORRIBLE to get in tight when rear facing. The LATCH only tightens on one side... no idea why, but it's crazy trying to get it tight enough while tightening on only one side! The thing I hate most (besides the difficult installation when rear facing) is the thin belt. They twist up CONSTANTLY and the buckles fall down and twist- it was a crazy mess every single time we put him in there! It's also very wide. When it's in our captain seat (we have a Toyota Sienna) the arm rests don't go down (they will with quite a struggle... but probably not worth it!) Overall, it's probably an okay seat if you want to avoid spending the extra 100.00 on the Britax. None of the things that bugged me were huge issues- just that they were things I noticed were bummers in comparison. I ended up buying another Britax Marathon in the end... now if only Britax made their belts tighen like the Triumph did, I'd be in heaven! Not a terrible seat, but not the best either.
Love Evenflo!
I have 2 children and several convertible car seats (for my car, my husband's car, and my mom's car). We already had several Evenflo Triumphs when I decided to buy a Britax, having heard such great things about them. Well, I will tell you that I have been very disappointed with the Britax. I have a very tough time tightening the straps in the Britax. The Evenflo is a piece of cake, thanks to the knobs you turn to tighten the straps. I will say that I like my DLX model more than the lower end models we have. Also, I think that Evenflo is a great company. I noticed a break in the foam liner of one of our seats, and although it did not affect the safety of the seat, they shipped me a new liner free of charge. Our dog scratched and tore the cover of one seat, and our 9 month old pulled off a torn piece and choked on it (thankfully she is okay). When I called the company to ask about getting a replacement cover to prevent any future problems, they shipped one to me that day, free of charge. They also asked that I send them the torn cover so that they can investigate why it tore and avoid it in future models. They stand behind their products. We need to purchase another seat, and I plan to buy an Evenflo. I will not purchase another Britax.
good and bad
We have had two Triumphs and have loved using them. I only have two complaints. First, the fabric fades. I haven't had any other convertible car seats to compare to, but our Graco Snugride still isn't very faded after many years of use. In the case of this one, the brown faded to a purple color. Second, we have this one because the clip for the harness broke on the first one. There is no way to replace the harness clip, so the seat is then left useless!
