![]() | Wüsthof Classic 8-Inch Cook's Knife
Buy new: $99.95 / Used from: $90.99 A good-quality knife is truly indispensable in a vegan kitchen, since so much slicing and chopping and mincing of vegetables and fruits is required. I've had this knife for four years and have been consistently happy with it.

![]() | KitchenAid KFP7I5 7-Cup Food Processor, White
Buy new: $99.99 I think that for a vegan a food processor is a necessity. I make vegetables dips with it, puree tofu for sauces and mousses, and mix fillings for savory tarts. I bought this 7-cup one because it was what I could afford, but I recommend a larger one if your wallet permits.

![]() | KitchenAid Silicone Spatula Scraper, Red
Just an excellent multi-purpose spatula. The top is removable for a more thorough clean-up, which has turned out more useful than I anticipated.
|
![]() | World Kitchen/Ekco 1045621 3-piece Wooden Spoon Set
Buy new: $8.99 Almost embarrassingly basic--but wooden spoons are so perfect at what they do.
|
![]() | Oxo Good Grips Stainless Serving Spatula
Buy new: $8.99 Another great multi-tasker, sturdy, comfortable to handle and easily cleaned.
|
![]() | Oxo Good Grips 9-Inch Locking Tongs with Nylon Heads
Buy new: $11.50 I love these and use them nearly every day.
|
![]() | Microplane Grater/Zester
Buy new: $11.07 Unequaled for grating citrus zest, fresh nutmeg, ginger root, and garlic, among many other things. A bit tricky to clean, but worth it.
|
![]() | Oxo Good Grips Wooden Reamer
Buy new: $5.99 I've tried all sorts of gadgets for juicing citrus fruit, but this reamer is the tool I go back to again and again. It is the simplest and quickest to use and clean.
|
![]() | Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Food Scale, Chrome
Buy new: $24.95 A digital scale is the best gift you can give yourself as a baker. It takes all the guesswork and frustration out of measuring your ingredients and requires much less clean-up than measuring cups. Very highly recommended.
|
![]() | Pyrex Prepware 1-Quart Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements
Buy new: $8.00 Much better than just the 2-cup measure, which often turns out to be too small for mixing all the wet ingredients for a recipe.
|
![]() | MIU 4-Piece Polished Stainless-Steel Measuring Spoon Set
Buy new: $5.99 Stainless steel is the essential feature here. I like this set in particular because it has fewer spoons (four vs. the average six) so it handles more easily. Besides, I don't really miss the 1/2 teaspoon and 1/2 tablespoon measures. I recommend getting two sets of measuring spoons, so that you don't have to clean them when you switch, say, between measuring baking soda and molasses.
|
![]() | Measuring Cup Set Of 7 Cups: 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 1Cup In Stainless (91688) by MIU France
Buy new: $26.89 These metal mesuring cups are excellent. For a long time I used plastic measuring cups and had no idea how much I was missing.
|
![]() | Winware Stainless Steel Dough Scraper with Wood Handle
Buy new: $2.01 Another excellent multi-tasker. It's quite efficient, among other things, at transferring chopped vegetables from the cutting board to the pan.
|
![]() | KitchenAid Cook's Series Household Shears, Set of 2
Buy new: $14.99 It's nice to have a good pair of scissors just for the kitchen. I use these a lot for salads (cutting salad leaves, slicing bell peppers, and even "chopping" mushrooms when I'm not too worried about squashing them a bit) and also for adding herbs to a dish when I don't want to dirty a knife and cutting board for just a handful of parsley.
|
![]() | Oxo Good Grips Small Cookie Scoop
Buy new: $11.95 Besides cookies, I use this for scooping out tomato paste, pesto, nut butters and other thick, sticky stuff. It also measures perfect portions for freezing the above.
|
![]() | Roscan Stainless Steel 2-1/4 Inch Icecream Scoop
Simply perfect for muffins and cupcakes.
|
![]() | Calphalon Simply Traditional Hard Anodized Nonstick 5-Quart Saute with Cover
Buy new: $39.99 A sturdy, reliable, workhorse of a pan. I use it also as a skillet, since I have trouble not spilling things when I work with a skillet.
|
![]() | Le Creuset 2-3/4-Quart Soup Pot, Red
I've been in love with this soup pot from the moment I laid eyes on it. I make a lot of soups, so for me it's essential equipment.
Again, I bought this small size (2 3/4 quart) because of the price, but I recommend the 4 1/4 quart if you can afford it.
