Getting Started

When doing any healing work it is important to slow down to hear the voice of intuition. Speed up and the voice of ego echoes in our ears. Healing work also requires that we create some sacred space. It can be a special room, a corner of a room, or a favorite spot outdoors in nature. It's up to you. Think of creating some sacred space inside yourself as well.

Creating Sacred Space

Dedicate the space. Dedication of space means that we reverently declare our intention to set it apart from other space and consecrate it for this particular work. One simple way to dedicate space is to state aloud, "I, [your name], dedicate myself and this space to the work that needs to be done."

Set aside time. Interruptions break the energy cycle. Make sure to have quiet, uninterrupted time for your work with the Reiki Cards-anywhere from five minutes to three hours. It's up to you.

Build an altar. An altar is an important tool for focusing and grounding. It can be as simple as a table; a large, flat rock; or a place on the ground. Place items on the altar that have unique meaning or value to you. They can be items you've collected or that have been given to you by someone special. Arrange them in an order that is pleasing to you. Any of the following (and many others) are appropriate altar items: candles, pictures, statues, stones, feathers, cards, essential oils, a favorite pendulum, and any reading or writing material you desire.

Perform a ritual. Rituals solidify a spiritual discipline. A prayer can be a ritual or part of a ritual. Rituals are transitional devices that allow the conscious mind to let go and the unconscious mind to take over. They can be as simple as lighting a candle or ringing a small gong. Their purpose is to call your attention to what you intend to do here and to keep your mind focused on the spiritual work at hand.

Make an invocation. Say a prayer or invocation at the beginning of your session. Use the words, preferably spoken aloud, to call forth your God, spirit guides, or any other spiritual aids you need.

Set an intention. Set your intention, preferably aloud, by asking for what you desire. Ask in the present tense, as if it has already happened. For example, "I intend to have abundance in my life. There is enough [time] to do all I want to do. There is enough [love] to be all I desire to be."

Choose your tools. Before you enter your sacred space, choose the spiritual tool or tools you will need for your intention and desire. A spiritual tool can be as simple as a single prayer. It can be a card reading, a spiritual writing or reading, or anything that helps you communicate with the Divine.

Close your healing session with a prayer of gratitude for all you've been given.

Healing through Reiki4
Designed to enhance personal growth, this system uses Reiki symbols, Shinto symbols (such as the waterfall) and concepts like transcendence and chakras to provide a method of self exploration.

The cards are small (about 3" X 3"), and while that was a disappointment for me, I find that it takes the focus off "what a pretty deck" and places it on the work that can be accomplished through the meditations, readings and counseling the book provides.

One of the exercises suggests chanting the name of one of the Reiki symbols. This would be very useful for someone attuned to that symbol, but for anyone not initiated into Reiki I'm not sure that would be of use to them. That's why this set might be better utilized by those interested in being attuned to Reiki or who already have Reiki attunements.

This book and card set would be wonderful for anyone newly attuned and going through their cleansing or introspection period. It can also be used by practitioners who are long past the cleansing period.

The spreads are interesting and useful. One involves accessing the shadowy mentality we all have, and seeing the good within it as well as the potential for the negative.

Meditations have been written out to assist the reader with personal transformations. They are somewhat basic, but the descriptions are good, providing enough detail for the individual to not have to alter the meditation unless necessary.

I recommend this for those involved in Reiki or who wish to become involved.

Practical and Innovative Application of Ancient Tradition5
Archetypal Reiki draws on ancient spiritual traditions to incorporate modern psychological concepts for all around personal growth and healing.

In Dr. May's style (see her previous work: Codependency: PowerLoss, SoulLoss), it is not a conventional book to be read from cover to cover. Rather, it is a companion to be used regularly or as needed to assist the user in self-discovery and improvement.

Archetypal Reiki is a kit including a small card deck and a "user manual". Used together, the cards and manual become a practical guide which helps identify personal areas where work is needed and suggests creative ways in which to approach this work.

Its design is attractive with energizing colors and symbolic drawings-the slightly asymetrical design of the cards gives them a useful vertical dimension to work with opposite sides of a given concept's continuum. This kit offers a wide variety of ways to unleash its guiding energy. For instance, the "user manual" provides detailed instructions with useful diagrams for various levels of work intensity. This makes the use of this kit accessible by the novice as well as the experienced Reiki practitioner.

Archetypal Reiki is highly recommended as an original and practical companion for personal growth and healing.

REIKI KIT5
I Love this Kit. The kit was exceptional for attaining self-awareness. I used Dr. May's cards to create my inner journey and read the enclosed book to delve into deeper insight on various daily meditative and ordinary questions. This kit is one of a kind! How fabulous to share this with the world. Dr. May's kit uses spirituality to go to new levels of self awareness. She ties in traditional Reiki with modern techniques to gain and further development. This is a must for those who use hands on daily meditatiive tools!
