Before "Blade" came out, most people still thought vampires were evil and bad in movies.
When Blade came out, that attitude turned 180 degrees for the mass market. Now, it's cool to have a Hero vampire in a movie (like in Underworld, Ultraviolet and Bloodrayne).

This is not a kid's movie.
