The 2006 harvest olive oil has a lovely fragrance of almond and fennel. Perfectly balanced with a rich fruitiness of avocado and roasted tomato it is pleasant on the palette, with little bitterness, as you would expect from the soft, coastal influences. The olive oil finishes with a pleasant, light pungency. The harmony of flavors in this olive oil calls out for simple roasted or baked fish, and chicken dishes, seasonal vegetable salads, steamed new potatoes or to make the perfect pesto with basil or arugula. Harvested November 2006 - VERY LIMITED! Olio del Le Colline Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from olives grown in the rolling hills of Santa Cruz, California in the town of Aptos. Owner Chris Banthiem's Valencia Creek Farm is a visually extraordinary property sitting on the hill. From a small group of 100 olive trees first imported from Pescia, Italy in 1994, Chris and her partner, nurseryman Bruce Golino, have expanded to over 1800 trees. Chris and Bruce are very proud to be the first to grow olives for olive oil production in the Monterey Bay area since the 1940's. Award-Winning Le Colline di Santa Cruz is produced from estate olives grown in the cool, coastal climate of Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. The mild weather, similar to Lucca in Tuscany, and coastal influence yields very fruity olive oils with softer bitterness and pungency than olive oils produced from drier, warmer climates. Specializing in Tuscan and northern Italian varietals, Chris and Bruce have planted Maurino, Frantoio, Leccino & Ascolano and have recently planted Taggiasca from the Ligurian Coast.
