Bowling for Columbine did it to the gun culture. Super Size Me did it to fast food. Now The God Who Wasn't There does it to religion.
Holding modern Christianity up to a bright spotlight, this eye-opening documentary asks the questions few dare to ask. "Did Jesus even exist?" is just the beginning for The God Who Wasn't There. Your guide through the world of Christendom is former fundamentalist Brian Flemming, joined by such luminaries as Jesus Seminar fellow Robert M. Price, author Sam Harris and historian Richard Carrier.
In addition to the film, which won the Best Documentary award at the 2005 Grassroots Cinema Film Festival, this feature-packed DVD includes:
-Special commentary tracks with Richard Dawkins and Earl Doherty
-Over one hour of compelling additional interview footage
-An in-depth Web-enabled slide show
-Music from the soundtrack
-Bios of all participants
This provocative DVD takes off the gloves and gives religion an unprecedented, no-holds-barred examination. So hold on to your faith. It's in for a bumpy ride.

Eye-Opening
I like how in the video, christianity itself isn't put down but rather those "christain" induviduals who are so blind they will follow any dogma fed to them and those who look down at the "infidels" around them.
I don't like christains who bash science or scientists who bash christianity.
I like how connections are made to show some possibilities that people typically ignore blind to anything other than what they were force-fed as children.
Great!
I thought this thought provoking, in-plain-sight documentary was great. It approaches the Jesus myth in a sarcastic, funny way that hooked me from the start.
If you're having any doubts about being an atheist and haven't quite broken free from you life-long bible conditioning, this movie will give you the confidence you're looking for.
The [...] guy is the best.
Another Atheist's Review
I may have overestimated the intelligence and artistic ability when I rented this DVD. For some reason, I thought that it would be reminiscent of early Michael Moore stuff. At worst, I thought that the filmmaker would've at least put a little effort into the thing. I felt like I was watching a youtube video. It was too sloppy and they could've left most of the beginning out and maybe get more interviews in. The music was horrible. If you're prone to getting songs in your head, you'll keep hearing "...This is just a simulation, you are just an illustration..." long after the film's over.
My problem wasn't with the "meanness". I didn't really think it was too mocking. My problem was with the lack of mockery and creativity. More dramatic editing would help. A few jokes and maybe cartoons would help.
If you're going to have a documentary that has a message, you either go the serious route, or go a polemic Michael Moore style. This was just bland and confused.
