Product Description

In the late 1960s the Soviet Union was working on a fourth-generation jet fighter concept. These aircraft would form the backbone of Warsaw Pact air forces in the next decade. The Soviet aerospace industry began considering enhancing combat capabilities with new air-to-air missiles and a sophisticated weapons control system. Thus the MiG-29 was born. High maneuverability, a high thrust-to-weight ratio, a wide speed range, and special short-range missiles are just a few of the MiG-29's special characteristics. This book extensively covers the concept, variants, upgrades, carrier trials, service, sales, and what the future holds for the MiG-29. Find out how the MiG-29 paved the way for aerodynamic refinements, improved handling, stability, and technological changes that simplified the building process. Learn details on the MiG-29's engine and controls. Powered by two Klimov NPP (Izotov) RD-33 afterburning turbofans rated at 5,040 kgp (11,111 lb st) at full military power, and armed with an internal gun, short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles, unguided rockets, and free-fall bombs, the MiG-29 is truly a marvel in military aircraft. Authors Yefim Gordon and Peter Davison use over 300 photos to illustrate the story of the MiG-29. Topics covered include design, development, structural detail, international production, trials, comparisons, overseas sales, and much more. This book is a must have for all aircraft enthusiasts!

Review

Modeling Madness, September 2005, reviewed by Scott Van Aken
"Overall, an outstanding book on Russia's best dogfighter. What makes it even more appealing is that it is very competitively priced."

Internet Modeler, October 2005, reviewed by Chris Banyai-Riepl
"This book does an excellent job of covering the history of this plane, starting out with the initial concept and development. This is a welcome addition to the Warbird Tech series, and one that is bound to be popular with those who have a stack of Italeri 1/72 or Academy 1/48 kits in their closet."

Hyperscale, February 2006, reviewed by Ken Bowes
"Yet again this Warbird Tech volume is of very high quality and a worthy investment for modeling reference. The book will serve both history buffs and modelers well."

This book gives a look inside a development and operational life of a pure fighter aircraft. A must have for all of who like soviet/russian combat aircrafts.

Another excellent volume by WarbirdTech: The MiG-29 FULCRUM: 4
Aviation enthusiasts are probably some of most passionate hobbyists in the world, spending thousands of dollars on books and photographs of their favorite planes or attending air shows to get a glimpse of aircraft in action. For the last 20 years, the MiG-29 FULCRUM has created more excitement than any other comparable fighter, thanks to its jaw-dropping Cobra maneuver at the Le Bourget Paris air show in its Western debut. As befitting such a fine aircraft, WarbirdTech has made it the centerpiece of its latest release, one sure to please aviation enthusiasts both in America and overseas.

Written by renowned Russian/Soviet aviation expert Yefim Gordon and Peter Davison, MiG-29 FULCRUM delivers over 100 pages of detail on the design, prototype, series production, and export of this amazing aircraft. Beautifully illustrated with well over 200 photographs, this book covers every aspect of the fighter. Included is information on the overseas exports as well as the development of the MiG-29K naval fighter, which has been selected by India as its primary fighter aircraft for its new indigenously built carrier and for the ex-Admiral Gorshkov that is scheduled to deliver in 2008. At just over $0.10 per photo of the FULCRUM, this is a fantastic deal and a worthy addition to your aviation shelf, although the enthusiast in me wishes it was a larger volume. The FULCRUM edition continues a great series that has delivered volumes on fantastic aircraft like the RAF Avro Vulcan Bomber and the North American XB-70 Valkyrie. The WarbirdTech series and this volume are both highly recommended!

From Russia with Love5
Many Years ago, the Mig-29 was surrounded by an aura of specullation and mystery the only reference to it's existence were murky DoD satellite images, and some crude artwork depicting it as a cross between an F-18 & F-14. In this Volume author Yefim Gordon brings us a treasure trove of hard data & photos of this very capable warbird.
