Product Description

Ethereal and enchanting, the fairy has captured the imagination of people around the world, appearing on everything from stationery to tattoos. Recognizing the growing interest in these mystical creatures, David Riche, creator of the hugely successful Web site fairyartists.com, has compiled this collection of fairy artwork by artists from Japan, Europe, and the United States. Some childlike, some sensual, some mysterious, these portraits provide ideal motifs for body art, stickers, greeting cards, and other applications. Working in many different mediums, artists such as Linda Ravenscroft, Myrea Pettit, and Josephine Wall capture the magic that makes the fairy such a captivating figure. With beautiful full-color reproductions of each piece, this volume will bring joy to the hearts of fairy lovers everywhere.

Nice little collection of fantastical art3
The official description of the book since there is nothing here yet:

"The huge popularity of faeries in art is celebrated in this new small-format book, featuring the creations of the best artists working in the US, Europe and Japan. It continues Collins and Brown's successful series of design motif books. Such is the appeal of Fairy art that a growing number of people are now using designs for purposes as diverse as body art and personal stationery. The purpose of this book is to offer a catalogue of inspiration for Fairy lovers everywhere, whether they want to create their own transfers, stickers and greetings cards, or adorn their bodies with henna painting and tattoos. Featured atists include watercolour illustrator Linda Ravenscroft.

The book includes artworks in all mediums, from digital to watercolour and oils, and the designs themselves show these gentle, playful creatures at work, at play, in flight and performing Fairy magic."

While honestly this is not the best fairy art book available, it is a nice little collection of art if you are a fairy lover. The book includes some well known artists as well as many you may not have had a chance to see yet (and should certainly not be overlooked). It is a small format book and most of the pictures are small (with a few to a page) and lacking backgrounds due to the publisher's desire for images which would be good for tattoos or other designs; hence the "Motifs" in the title. The books suffers because of this, as the artist's works are not showcased at their best. But to discount the art in this book because it not all by well known you are used to seeing would be to miss out on a lot of great talent. As was pointed out in another review, this may not be a book for children depending on how you feel about pin up style nudity.

The book includes over 30 artists: John Arthur, Brigid Ashwood, Jasmine Becket-Griffith, Misty Benson, Linda Biggs, James Browne, Walter Bruneel, Jaqueline, Collen-Tarrolly, Kathleen Cyr, Meredith Dillman, Andy Duroe, Lisolette Erickson, Selina Fenech, Anna Franklin, Jessica Galbreth, Victoria Griffin, Suzzane Gyseman, Carrie Hawks, Ed Hicks, Juri Iida, Stathis Krabateas, Wendy Kathleen, Timothy Kobs, Silvia Lugli, Coleen Mcintyre, Karen Miles, Susan Miller, Erin Minicks, Sarah Pauline, Myrea Pettit, Natalia, Pierandrei, Nicole Pisaniello, John Randall York, Linda Ravenscroft, Aimee Ray, Suzzane Richards, Ann Mari Sjogren, Terrell Smith-Dofeo, Paulin Stuckey-Cassidy, Ryuichi Takeuchi, Melissa Valdez, Maria Van Bruggen, Linda Varos, Maria J Williams, Babara Yochum.

If you are looking for a book with more traditional illustrative fairy art or famous artists consider taking a look at "World of Fairy" or "Art of Faery". "Watercolor Fairies" and "How to Draw and Paint Fairies" are both wonderful collections of art along with how-to instruction and work-in-progress photos for the young or aspiring artist or anyone who just loves fairy art.
