Seeds And Weeds is a philosophically expressive compilation of poetry and prose from the heart of JJ Johnson. Offering his feelings on politics, faith, family, introspection, nature, friendship and fate, to poetry itself, Seeds and Weeds is more than simply a collection of verse with splashes of imagery. It reflects the spirit of a caring man who proclaims, “Nice guys don’t finish last, we just want to be sure no one gets left behind”. The poems in this compilation could not be conjured from the casual observations on life that some would accept as fine poetry. These poems are more; they are the raw emotions expressed in words that have been inspired by a lifetime of experiences. Written in the moment of these events, the poetry here is sometimes harsh, but always honest while digging deeply into the essence of poetic creation.

Customer Reviews
It's time to weed the garden!
Creatively expressed in rhyme and reason, Seeds and Weeds challenges the mind and heart to find tolerance and compassion through poetic observations on the rise and fall of character. Tracing the roots of hatred back to their seeds exposes fear, greed and pride as the origins of prejudice. Recognizing where these feelings rise up from is simply taking the first steps on a quest for the Promised Land. These poems are deeply personal yet easy to connect with and the prose lends interesting hindsight into the writing of the poetry.
excellent social poetry from a man in today's world
Strong, clever, vivid poems from the heart. honest. angry. sometimes funny. sometimes admittedly confused and befuddled. openly judgemental, occassionally hypocritical.
Good stuff about racism, hatred, religion, war and the Bush administration. Insightful about Martin Luther King Jr. during fromative years. Good teen angst and family dysfunction.
It often hits hard, and JJ doesn't pull punches, even though he claims to be a peace warrior.
He has a sensitive side buried in there somewhere. He is an Aries all the way, and the Seeds and Weeds are not those of a wasted, pot smoking mind. Rather they reflect awareness, growth and strangulation of spirit.
The Layout is good and the font is larger in the reprint edition.
