RED FACTION 2 V.S. HALO AND TIMESPLITTERS 25
Now, as an extreme RF2 fan, I waited all summer for this baby. Since my sis' works at blockbuster, i got it early.
GAMEPLAY: So far, the gameplay is very addictive and unorthodox unlike the first. You get anything you want in the game, sometimes you find out your inventory holds weapons that you never even knew.Fun and gory, much better than TUROK. GEO-MOD is still there, more sufficient and better than RF1.
GRAPHICS: Cleaner than the first faction and no slow downs in multi-player. TIMESPLITTERS 2 was a little crude on the graphics. RF2 is a XBOX game on PS2 in my opinion.
SOUND/MUSIC: The sound is perfect, smart [...] remarks and high tech noises, screams, yells, and shattering glass. NOW HERES THE DOWNFALL to the game, the music. Its not the sappy danger music in HALO, but safe and pointless music in RF2 or, Calypso.
MULTIPLAYER: Three words, NO SLOW DOWNS! You got that a lot in the first one, but since the graphics are better, you don't get any of that, so don't worry about it.
OVERALL: i'm gonna stick to my 5 out of 5 grade, because, it wasn't the beautiful graphics or weapons, or disgusting music, but the GEO-MOD! this is the only game with it, and this is what makes it fun! You can make your own bat caves, or holes in the ground so the bots can fall in them, this game is perfect! THE BEST GAME FOR PLAYSTATION 2 THIS SEASON!

GeoMod is GREAT, but a bit too short4
Red Faction on the PS2 won acclaim for its fantastic GeoMod technology. Red Faction II takes this technology a step further and enhances the graphics as well.

Where Red Faction was set on Mars, and you were a miner fighting against a corrupt mining company, Red Faction II is set on Earth and you (named 'Alias') are fighting against SOPOC. SOPOC is very '70s Soviet' like with lots of thick accents and heavy [politics].

Again, the geomod technology really shines in the game. Just about anything you see, you can shoot off the outer layer and even blow the entire object up. An enemy is blocking the end of a hallway? Blow a hole in the wall nearby and go around the back way. Want to take down a bridge? Blow out the supports beneath it and then put grenades in the exposed core.

The game bills itself as team-based combat, but it isn't nearly as smooth as Halo. You do have one or two friends that fight alongside you in certain areas, or who pipe in on your communications system to give you suggestions. In generaly though it's really you against the enemy. You can act as gunner in several missions, and there are one or two that you can steer a given vehicle in.

The graphics are good, but not stellar. The lighting is nice as spotlights shine down in the dark or lights glow overhead, but it's still a bit flat when compared against the top of the line console or PC games. The music is OK, but a lot of the 'immersion' things you watch for - footsteps, shadows, ambient noises - are missing.

You can probably get through the game in a few days, and once you unlock various features with bonus achievements you can have a blast (heh) in the various deathmatch and multiplay modes. Eventually you can use all the models you encounter in multiplayer, plus a wide variety of weapons, maps and situations.

If you're a fan of shoot-em-up gameplay that sometimes needs a bit of thought behind how to achieve the objective, this is the game for you. You can replay each mission several times to see if alternate routes through walls, floors or ceilings make a difference. The graphics aren't perfect, but the geomod technology gives them a leg up on the competition. Once they get the graphics to shine like some of the top-runners in the market, they will be unbeatable!

Awesome5
This is one of the best Multiplayer game I have ever seen. Four-player deathmatch is more or less required in first person shooters theese days. Thus, it's pleasing to see that Volition has upgraded Red Faction II with the coveted four-player split-screen, doubling the number of players available in comparison to its prequel. Your stats are kept to which wwe will start tpo see come in other games also. You can also create your own bots for your profile tio and their stats are also kept. In early form, the multiplayer game runs quite well, too, with several different game types available for up to six participants (although only four of them can be human).
Deathmatch,Team Deathmatch,Arena, team Arena, Bagman, Team Bagman, Capture The Flag and a Hidden one Regime.
Three-man teams are a little on the thin side for something like CTF, but since the levels are designed around a relatively small player count, the team games run well enough. Free-for-alls are what most players will probably choose, though, since the player limit is just about right for deathmatch.
Singleplayer
The single player mode is great too. Their are all kinds of different challenges and it isn't super easy either. Their is a good replay value becuase your ending is different depending on your Heroics. Its very addicting to. I didnt want to stop playing until my mom unplugged the PS2.

Presentation 9.0
The story-driven presentation keeps the action moving (even if the screenplay could use work) and the interface is much improved (better weapon-swapping especially).
Graphics 9.3
A big improvement in every area, fast framerate, great background detail, lighting and special effects serve as fine wrapping for the destruction.
Sound 8.5
The voice acting's failings are mainly the fault of the writing, and the soundtrack is unusually effective in a low-key way
Gameplay 9.3
Great first-person control is the centerpiece, surrounded by strong weapon and level design. There are a few spots where progression needs work, but they're relatively uncommon.
Lasting Appeal 9.3
The multiplayer mode is the biggest asset here, but the single-player game will probably draw you back as well.
Overall 9.2 Get this game
