I laughed and then i cried...
I have all the volumes of Family Guy and being stationed overseas means this is the best way to watch shows. I recently decided to watch every episode of Family Guy from Season 1 episode 1 to now. It's kind of depressing to see how much the show has gone down hill. The first 3 seasons were hilarious, and from there it was just funny. Now, practically every episode has a stupid song and dance that's basically used as filler. Conway Twitty was nice random FG stuff the first time, but 3 times so far and i wanna punch Seth MacFarlane. I did laugh while watching this season, but i only watched it once over. Once. What i don't understand is that this volume and volume 6 were both 3 discs and on the 3rd disc is lackluster special features and 1 (ONE) episode...
you know what Family Guy team, don't release a volume 8 or 9, because it's just gonna be half of season and a piece of another. Instead, when you release a DVD set, realease 1 (ONE) full season.
The magic is definitely gone...
The characters, settings, and voices are all still there... but the magic is definitely gone. There are fewer laughs, and the show almost seems like it's trying too hard. There are also too many 'break into song' routines that are not very funny. They need to get some fresh writers in because season 7 is starting to drag the once hysterical series into the mud.
Overpriced and Under-funny
Fox continues its practice of releasing 13 episodes for what they used to charge for a full (~24 episodes) volume. It's just not worth it until it goes on discount for around $20.
But more importantly, the content of the show has suffered a serious decline in quality. There are far fewer laugh out loud moments, fewer genuinely funny episodes, and fewer plots that are even worth animating. There are several episodes that didn't make me laugh once (and that has never happened in any previous season). I hope this is just a hiccup and not a trend, but I'm losing faith.
In short, it's too much money for too few episodes of declining quality.
