Adventurous readers can use it to preview the panoramas at 124 sites in North and South America, including Central America and the Caribbean. The authors profile sites both natural and cosmopolitan listed by the time of year at which they are at their best --Book News, Inc
It provides much more information then just average temperatures and
rainfall, such as details about when to witness natural attractions and when
must-see cultural events are in town (like St. Lucia s famous jazz festival,
for six days in May). Each month has urban, island and adventure offerings. --Modern Bride
[S]erves as a kind of travel almanac the kind that makes you wish you were very, very rich with an excess of free time... Even if you re not excessively rich with nothing more pressing to do other than trek the Alaskan fjords, The Americas is fun daydreaming material perhaps the realist response to Vollman s Seven Dreams. --bibliodklept.com

A Great Follow-Up to Where to Go When
I love this book! It's full of gorgeous photos that make me want to pack my bags immediately and explore all the corners of this amazing continent: from Canada and the US, to Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Who wouldn't want to see the baby polar bears in Cape Churchill or the mysterious Easter Island statues, cruise the Amazon or join the mother of all New Year's Eve parties in Rio de Janeiro? This book is the second in the Where to Go When series (the first edition covered destinations around the world), and gives a selection of the best places to visit in the Americas for every month of the year - it could be the best season for travel to Patagonia or maybe there's a great festival in Wisconsin that month. It's also full of useful information (hotels, restaurants, dos and donts, getting around) and maps, along with interesting little stories relevant to each destination. It would make a great gift for anyone who likes traveling, or just the idea of traveling. Start planning your next vacation now!
The Americas from your armchair
I've been anticipating this book for a while, after I received the first
book in the series 'Where To Go When - Travel' Where To Go When (Eyewitness Travel Guides) as a gift. Both books are full of amazing photographs, easy to read with maps and lots of practical information - I love that it displays the best places to visit and when to visit them, even when it's the not the time of year you'd expect. Each month has a weather watch in the diary, so you know what to expect - and the locations are split into themes like Natural Wonders (my favorite), Family Getaways and Active Adventures. Not the guide you could pack in your handbag, (too big!) but provides a great starting place if you're stuck for ideas as to where in the world you'd next like to go - (I've made a list, the places I will one day visit, and another with the places I probably wouldn't but is just as good plunging in from my armchair!) Would recommend it as a gift for friends or family, anyone with an interest in travel, or loves beautiful things to'ooh' and 'ahhh' over. Hope Dorling Kindersley make more travel books like these - I feel like I have a little of this amazing world we all live in on my bedside table, and a growing need to experience it.
Great source of useful information for traveling
I purchased this book as a retirement gift since people who are lucky enough to be retired have options for the time of travel. It's a nice set up, gives useful information, and has lovely photos. I had to buy one for myself later! I highly recommend it.
