It's really more like 23 inches
I bought this bag to make it through the UK's 22-inch length requirement for carry-on. Counting the wheels, this bag is really around 23 inches in length. I was asked at Gatwick airport to put my bag into British Air's testing box and it wouldn't fit. Saying it's 21 inches is really false advertising. This is a good bag, but for the exact purpose for which I bought it, it failed me. I wish I would have bought a different bag.

This bag is not a carry-on
Like A.Anderson's review, I was shocked to find that the actual long dimension of this suitcase is 23 inches. Nothing in the product description indicated this.

We bought this as a carry-on bag; the vast majority of non-US airlines have either 21" or 22" as their allowable long dimension. I thought we would be set with this bag! We are returning it. We need a bag that will *always* be allowed carry-on, not just when the fellow at security lets you go by without making you put it in the box!

It is well-made, with an intelligent and attractive design, but the size thing cancels all that out. I am upset with the Rick Steves company, as I had considered them trustworthy.

I feel duped. I'm just glad I read the other review, and returned it before taking it abroad! Thanks, A.Anderson.

Disappointing!
I used this suitcase once, on a Rick Steve's Tour of Ireland. By the end of the trip the fabric around the zipper had frayed, and there is now quite a long hole down one side of the suitcase. I expected more from a $139.00 piece of luggage!
