Unbelievable
I'm a 19-year old college student who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in September. My digestive system has been completely out of whack for years--constipation, gas, bloating, and all sorts of other issues to the point that I am not used to being comfortable, digestively-speaking (and this definitely makes it difficult to be comfortable in other areas). Doctors have told me that MS doesn't affect my digestive system. I've given up all dairy, caffeine, fried foods, processed meats, and high-fat foods (for the most part), since trying to eat all of these things seemed to aggravate my system, and the inconvenience hasn't influenced my digestive problems.
However, I bought this Kashi cereal the other day just to see what those little white fluffs tasted like, and by a few days later, I couldn't believe how well my digestive system was working. I'm actually having regular bowel movements, and I haven't been uncomfortable hardly at all, which sounds unremarkable, but in my case, it is definitely awesome.
It took me a while to remember that I was eating something with probiotic ingredients and so much fiber, so I don't think this is psychological/placeboesque, even though the turn-around is so quick and powerful that it's almost hard to believe. It's led to me do a lot of reading about the digestive system and its influence on the rest of the body, as well as probiotic research and immune system relationships with probiotics, and I really think that diet is something that can help me fight MS, even though there is no cure and most doctors currently think it is not influenced by diet whatsoever. Kashi Vive has turned things around for me and even though I might not be able to control MS with my diet (which I'm convinced I can do), the digestive improvement, if it lasts, is worth buying three boxes of this cereal a week. I've even started to drink coffee again, as an experiment, and the digestive improvement has not declined at all.
If you're having digestive problems, please try this!
We all need help
This cereal is ugly. It really looks like one of those "gross" health cereals that your grandma eats as you stare in fear and awe. With great relief, however, I can tell you that it simply tastes like a pleasant mix of wheat flakes and graham crackers. The benefits of the yogurt bacteria, broccoli, and fiber are really great, too, and quickly apparent.
I do have one word of warning. There are some people who eat the half cup of cereal recommended and some people who curl up with a bowl the size of their head in front of the TV. If you fall into the latter category, understand that you have just shifted your digestive system into overdrive. This may surprise you in multiple ways, none of which I will mention.
Tasty and good for you.
PROS:
--Lots of fiber *12 grams a serving*
--probiotics
--Cholesterol-free
--trans fat-free
As far as high fiber, healthy cereals this is the only one I can stand.
CONS:
--Not too pleasant to look at. It has a LOT going on. Lots of brown in different shapes and sizes.
--Lots of fiber, if you have a low fiber diet--please think of your spouse, coworkers, etc and ease your way into this one...
