You won't recognize your baking. Absolutely essential for homemade pizzas & crusty artisan breads. I've had mine 12 years.

Product Description

A baking stone for home oven use reminiscent of the stone baking ovens of earlier times. Over 30 years ago the Old Stone Oven Company first introduced the baking store for home use and it is still the best. Thicker than other stones available, it has a porosity and heat retention that is perfect for a good crust. The Old Stone Oven Pizza Stone duplicates crispy pizzeria quality pizza - crust and all- in a standard kitchen oven. The Stone can also be used to bake bread, rolls and biscuits giving them a very special texture and quality or as a warming tray to keep waffles, pancakes, fried chicken, etc warm until ready to serve.

Amazon.com Review
Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Old Stone Oven rectangular pizza stone gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures.

Wait until the baking stone is entirely cooled before attempting to clean it. Let it dry completely before using again. Some discoloration will occur over time; this is natural and will not affect baking. Using baking parchment may help delay that discoloration. Do not bake cookies, turnovers or other high-fat items on the stone; the stone would absorb the fat and proceed to produce smoke and bad odors. The stone comes with a flyer that contains detailed use and cleaning instructions, as well as recipes for bread, pizza dough, and two pizza toppings. --Garland Withers

Amazon.com Product Description
The Old Stone Oven 14-by-16-inch pizza stone meets the needs of crust lovers everywhere with its moisture-absorbing thick bottom, which delivers superior heat retention and distribution for crisper, more satisfying crusts. The stone is made of the same firebrick material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it's accustomed to high temperatures, and its porous texture resists cracking caused by thermal shock. The flat surface of the stone easily releases the pizza when cooked, or holds it in place if the stone is used as a serving tray. The stone is also appropriate for baking bread or rolls, and its heat-retaining qualities make it an ideal warming tray for pancakes or potatoes. For those who don't have a tried-and-true pizza recipe to follow, the stone even includes its own recipe collection.

Customer Reviews

broken in 4 pieces, poor packaging1
Requested a replacement. Customer service was good when I called. New stone is being sent 2-day w/o charge. I was told not to send the broken stone back, however I am saving the box, rubble, and shipping labels just in case.

After reading so many "broken" reviews, I had expected it to be a gamble. I tried to explain to the customer service rep about the lack of proper packaging. We'll see the next shipment.

Will update when the 2nd stone is received.

Poor packaging; stone arrived broken1
Really shoddy packing job -- the outer shipping box was crushed and I could hear the stone shaking around before I even opened the package. And when I did open it, the stone was broken into three pieces.

I am requesting a replacement. Let's see if this one actually arrives intact.

Fine stone5
My stone arrived safely and in one piece. Once I got the initial odor baked out of it (one heating) it has served me well for breads (hamburger and hot dog buns, naan, pita, pizza). I just leave it in my oven unless I'm baking something that might spatter oil on it.
I'm very happy with the quality and performance of this stone........really gives professional results with all kinds of breads. I even heat it a little to give me a warm place to let my yeast doughs rise because it will hold the heat a long time.
Great purchase!
