Day by Day Review
The below is my day by day review of the Febreze Luminary Starter Kit (Green Tea Citrus scent). Each scent last for about a week so I waited until after a full 7 days to write this to give an accurate description of how this works at either eliminating odors or at least masking them.
Day 1 - Decided to set this up in our living room on or first floor. Our house is fairly open so I thought this might be a good place to get the scent throughout the entire floor of about 1000 square feet. When I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised at the look of the air freshener and the great scent that the green tea citrus put out. The scent is located on a square paper cover that sits on the base. Once it is placed on the base, it gives off a candle like flicker for about 4 hoarse until you remove the paper square for a second and then put it back on. We placed it on our mantle and went on with our business. Within 30 minutes, I heard the basement door open and my wife came down with the air freshener and said, "way too strong. Starting to make me sick". So it ended up in my home theater room in the basement. Within 15 minutes, all I could smell was green tea citrus which was now starting to smell bad!
Day 2 - Went to my basement and the room just reeked of the smell. The best way I can describe how strong the smell was is by comparing to one of those car air fresheners shaped like a tree. You are only supposed to open it layer by layer by pulling it up through the plastic but there are those individuals that think it's a good idea to just rip it out of the package causing the entire car to smell like cheap perfume. In this case, it smells better than perfume but it makes the air real thick in the room. If you have breathing problems, day 2 is not better than day 1.
Day 3 - Getting better. Still strong but I can at least sit down there without "seeing" the scent float by me.
Day 4 - Similar to day 3. Man, this thing is strong!
Day 5 - OK, I am starting to dig the light scent leftover. Not strong but not so faint that you can't notice it.
Day 6 - I can barely smell it now but I also don't smell any type of odors in the basement so I guess it is still working
Day 7 -Same as day 6. I can smell it a little. It reminds me of a scented plug-in air freshener when it is near its end. I think I will keep the current air freshener on a another couple of days to see how it works beyond its recommended time period.
Overall it would be hard to recommend this to someone who plans on putting it in a small room. The first few days would make it unbearable unless you like thick heavy smells. Yes, it smells nice but too much of a good thing is usually bad! I would say keep it in a wide open space until around day 3 before moving it to a more confined space.
I am not sure if I will use the second refill that came with the starter kit. While it smells OK right now, I don't think I want to deal with 2 day exile from my home theater room in my basement. Also, I haven't seen any prices on the refills for this device so it could end up being much more expensive than a plug-in or old fashioned air freshener.
I will say that the design is nice and the flickering light gives off a nice ambience. It can definitely fill a void in a nice room without looking like an air freshener so I may consider using this in my living room more for that than an actual air freshener.
I love this thing!
Who would have thought I'd fall in love with an air freshner?? I never buy air freshners (plug in's, gels, plastic domes, etc...) because they just look tacky when seen. The Febreeze Flameless air freshner puts all other air freshner designs to shame. Place the decorative 'scented' sleeve on the square base and several flickering lights activate for four hours before turning off (to reactivate the light, just lift up the sleeve and set it down again). It looks like a very pretty paper lantern and the flickering lights mimick the appearance of a lit candle perfectly. The sleeve has lost it's scent, but we still use it anyways for when we want some mood lighting without lighting a candle. The kids have used it as a night light when sleeping over, just to help them fall asleep. Great idea! I will buy more of these when I get around to it.
Great Smell for One Use!
We loved the smell of the Green Tea Citrus. It replicates a candle lit lantern nicely. It is quite attractive overall. We liked everything about it except that the scent only lasted for a few hours. I thought it would last longer. I now would consider this like any other one use scented candle that you have to replace after a single use. The scent is in the shade itself, which comes in a sealed bag. When you place the decorative shade on the base it presses down on a button which triggers the base to flicker for 4 hours. It doesn't actually cause the scent to release or anything like that. Once you open the scent bag you have started the countdown on the scent time. The base only gives the candle effect. You can lift the shade off the base to stop the flicker or let it time out after 4 hours. You can take the shade off and put it back on to start another 4 hour cycle. The base runs on a single AAA battery that lasts for a long time considering the tiny bulb than flickers. I just wish the scent lasted longer.
