Editorial Reviews
From the Manufacturer
The Bosch 11263EVS SDS-max combination hammer features 2 modes of operation - rotary hammer or hammer-only and is a heavy-hitter with 9.6-Feet-Pound of impact energy in drilling mode and 1.1-Feet-Pound in chiseling turbo mode. The SDS-max bit system allows tool-free bit changes with automatic bit locking, dust protection and maximum impact energy transfer rate. This variable speed dial gives the user accurate bit starting and controlled chipping applications while constant response circuitry provides soft-start, maintains constant speed under load, provides overload protection. The turbo power feature delivers 20-Percent more power in hammer only mode. As with many Bosch hammers, a service minder light indicates when preventative maintenance is required. Vario-Lock positioning rotates and locks chisel into 12 different positions to optimize working angle while a 360-Degree auxiliary handle provides a wide range of movement along with operator comfort. The soft grip rear handle absorbs shock and vibration for operator comfort and less fatgue.

A powerful performer - but controllable
This is a great product and the price is right. In two months, we've used it for everything from 1/2" quick holes (it goes about 2-3x as fast as our SDS-plus HILTI drill with the same diameter bit) to 4" core holes in pebbled-concrete. We drilled one 4" core through 16 inches of this type of concrete in 7 minutes yesterday. It does a great job - very comparable to the SDS-Max Hilti drills rented at Home Depot / Lowes. This drill is heavy to use overhead but manageable, and it's a joy to use downwards. The jackhammer feature is good for light to medium duty work, and conveniently allows you to rotate the bit around. Overall, we like it very much and would definitely buy it again.
Not too big, not too small
Bought this from Amazon for use around our ranch. I expect to use it mostly for digging in our heavy clay soil but have already had some drilling and chipping work that I've needed to do. It's been a great tool for the great price I got. After reading reviews for other Bosch rotary hammers, I decided 11263EVS was the right "hybrid" size for my use. It's large and powerful enough to do the digging and demo work that I'll be doing most frequently but no too big for occasional overhead use (and I didn't want to spend any more). If you're doing a LOT of one type of work, you may want to consider a rotary hammer that's bigger or smaller.
Complaints that keep me from rating at 5 stars:
1. Handle and trigger ergonomics. I have a hard time carrying the tool without switching it on--my hands are too big to fit in the smaller handle opening and it's hard not to switch it on when carrying by the larger handle.
2. It's a variable speed tool but the trigger is on/off; you adjust the speed with a dial on the side. Perhaps this is the way they're all designed (I haven't compared) but its an annoyance, however minor.
it gave us hell...
it does the job but it is hell to pay. My co-workers and I think you ought to buy it. Make sure you protect your face with something like a paintball mask or kevlar suit. it shoots stuff back in your face, like hellfire. My good lord. Mogollon.
