Product Description

Everyone knows that a daily diet rich in fruits and vegetables can prevent obesity, diabetes, heart-disease and even some types of cancer. But most people don't eat anywhere near the recommended amount. The step-by-step plan in Green Smoothies RX shows how to transform one's health and avoid an array of preventable diseases by tapping the super nutrition found in leafy greens.

The cornerstone of the program is the author's taste-tested method for turning the traditional sugar-filled smoothie into a superb, nutrient-packed drink that has the healing power of greens while retaining the vitamin content and delicious taste of the blended fruit. Green Smoothies RX offers the fastest, easiest way to get one's daily dose—or more—of fruits and vegetables in a quick and pleasing drink.

The author presents nutrition facts and scientific evidence so readers can understand how each element of the plan and each ingredient in the smoothies offer tremendous benefits such as dramatically improved skin and hair tone, increased daily energy and a strengthened immune system. There are fifty recipes that take the guesswork out of making satisfying green smoothies every day.

About the Author
Robyn Openshaw grew up the eldest of eight children, raised on a tight budget where the household menu was dominated by simple plant foods: whole grains and legumes, fruits and vegetables. Her popular website, GreenSmoothieGirl.com, is dedicated to helping people conquer chronic conditions and achieve high energy and vibrant health by adopting a whole-food lifestyle--emphasizing raw food and plant consumption--which is easy, inexpensive, and pleasing to the palate.

A single mother of four, Openshaw teaches at Brigham Young University and is the author of 12 Steps to Whole Foods with over 250 recipes. Her tried and true nutritional regimen was spawned by her children; competitive athletes with high caloric needs who have helped her develop and test recipes and methods for over 15 years.

Openshaw received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brigham Young and the University of Utah respectively. She is a charter school founder, teaches nutrition classes, and helps local families obtain high-nutrition food storage items in group buys.

Pumped and Empowered!5
I just read this book and highly recommend it, have lent my copy to a friend
already. You will finish it so pumped and empowered to start eating
healthier--Openshaw shows how it doesn't have to be expensive, or time
consuming, or hard.

I was engrossed from the first page of the introduction, which is funny
because you wouldn't think a nutrition book would be so interesting. The
author has a nurturing voice and helps you feel YOU CAN DO THIS.

She covers everything, right as I had the question, like 10 tips to get my
kids to buy into the ideas, what's good about all the different greens
available, how to buy and store them, 10 reasons to start doing green
smoothies, what exactly to eat to detox or to lose weight. I've always
wanted to try the superfoods you read about, and now I know how to use them
all. I love Openshaw's review of her research on what happens to people who
drink green smoothies regularly--no one could read that and not want to
start taking her suggestions TODAY. The book is very well written, too.
Love the frequently asked questions and all the testimonials at the end.
Her website [...] is amazing.

Can't wait to try all the recipes. I have my blender cranked up! Usually I think of eating right as a drag, but today I'm feeling totally excited.

A Wake Up Call For Good Health5
As a recent convert to vegetarianism, I found this book very enlightening. It backed up with facts and scientific studies some of the thoughts I have been mulling over in my mind for some time. I have already discovered the health benefits of a plant-based diet, and the information in the book added to my convictions. I was especially impressed with the statement by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D. that "We now have more evidence that meat and dairy cause disease than we have evidence that smoking causes lung cancer."
I found the book to be very well written, easy to read, and filled with personal anecdotes that bring the book to life.
My husband, who suffers from veggie-phobia, finds the concept of drinking his greens very appetizing.
I wish this book would have been written when my sons were small. It would have eliminated the daily "eat-your-vegetables" war!

Who knew going Green could be so Easy5
Wow! I've been struggling for years to find a way as a mother of 5 to
eat a healthy diet on a consistent basis, and I beleive The Green
Smoothies Diet just showed me the way.

I'm a consumer of health books, I read everything, but have found it
hard to be consistent with all the chopping and dicing, especially
during any sports season --The Green Smoothies Diet showed me how easy
it is to consistently include the healthies ingredients in my
childrens diet on a daily basis with little fuss.

The book is entertaining, fun to read, full of valuable information
and research. It has just replaced several similar books in my recipe
cupboard.

This is a must read for mothers struggling in the jungle of junk foot
that can't see the green for the twinkies!
