Not anything like I expected2
Don Davis is a good composer and has written some great orchestral and even electronic music for film. I had a feeling that this would be in the electronic category and I was dead on accurate. I thought it would be theme oriented and the electronics would sound somewhat like an orchestra, like Davis has done before. But this didn't sound anything like that. The best way to describe the music in this score is to listen to over an hours worth of techno dance tracks. Add guitars and a voice to that here and there and you have Ballistic: Ecks VS. Sever - the score. Not every track is like that though. A few tracks are quieter in volume and do not make you want to get up and lower it. The theme is a basic 3 note synth and electric guitar motif that is found in several tracks throughout and is not memorable and does not capture your attention in any way. There is no need to point out specific tracks that are good because all of them are really the same. If you've heard one, you've heard all of them. If you're looking for a soundtrack that is synth led with voices and guitars, check out Hans Zimmer's Black Hawk Down as that is a good soundtrack. This one, however, should never have been released and I suggest staying away from it and not wasting your money. Don Davis is a good composer, but this is a rare exception.

Fun and awesome music4
Other than The Matrix, I had never heard any other Don Davis score when purchasing the score to Ballistic. I was hesitant after I read this previous review and knowing the movie was awful, but rest assured the score is an awesome addition to any soundtrack collection. It's almost non-stop techno action music, with a couple of quiet songs in there to give your head a rest. This cd is for the fans of Trevor Rabin or the James Bond scores (I highly recommend this to any fan of Trevor Rabin's The One score). It is not 5 stars simply because a lot of the songs are similar, not that that's a bad thing though.
