Review
“Material is presented in an easy to read intuitive manner backed up with a lot of photographs and diagrams showing how to do the procedures described. The text not only explains what to do, but why to do it…[and] does a good job of including updated information from the latest standards and technology.”~Howard Sykes, Assistant Chief, Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department, Durham, NC
“The manual is very well-written and provides the fire service with an all-encompassing textbook that moves a person that is interested in the fire service to someone that is proficient with the knowledge and skills to become a firefighter.”~Todd W. Haines, Fire Protection Engineer, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, TX
Review
"This book is solid. It does an excellent job in covering HazMat, which has been neglected for far too long. It also
covers the standard at a good depth, not too complicated but not superficial either. The book is formatted well, easy
to read, and the street-smart tips are very beneficial." – Attila Hertelendy, Instructor, University of Nevada,
Fire Science Academy, Carlin, NV

Firefighters Handbook:Essentials of Firefighting and Emergen
This book is much better than the IFSTA Essentials Manual. It does a better job on all the topics and also includes responses to Haz Mat and WMD incidents. No need to purchase another book. Excellent!
This is a well thought out book
This is a great improvement over the standard Essentials of Firefighting put out by IFSTA. The writing is better, the graphics are outstanding and there is great background information on each subject.
If you just want a textbook, purchase the IFSTA book. If you are interested in really reading and grasping the essentials then purchase this encyclopedia of knowledge and insight.
Great handbook
This is a great resource for firefighters. I went through the fire academy and spent the past few years using IFSTA Essentials to study with. I found the Firefighter's Handbook to be much more entertaining and enlightening. The chapters read alot easier and seem to be written for firefighters rather than students. It's loaded with more fire service history and many more tips and tricks of the trade than essentials. Highly recommend it.
