From the Studio
I Want To Be A... Firefighter is a 2005 Parents' Choice Recommended Award winner.
"It's hard not to glorify the noble work firefighters do, but this DVD does a rock-solid job of detailing the world of the red-helmeted workers with even-handedness. While most videos for this age group offer immediate gratification with violence and lightweight entertainment, this is an in-depth look for viewers considering a career as a firefighter or just interested in learning more about it. The production is played with a serious tone, except for the mild humor found in the history chapter of the DVD. Dramatic music, fast pacing, and vivid images keep viewers riveted in a way that makes them feel they are riding along on an engine or hanging out in the station. In its quest to be real, I Want To Be A... Firefighter explains the specifics of the job, including the fact that firefighters fight relatively few fires and are more engaged in emergency medical work. Younger observers should be cautioned about a few images of accident victims, yet no one appears to be in mortal danger. The host is down-to-earth, though a little stilted and there are no other interactive features, other than the ability to click on bonuses covering the challenges and reward of a career in firefighting and vital fire-safety tips. Still, this is several steps up the ladder from jokey or otherwise glossy firefighter perspectives as viewers receive a gritty look into the world of these emergency professionals." © 2005 Parents' Choice Foundation

Inspirational--a firefighters' collectible!
I'm an educator nearing retirement and bought this DVD as a gift. After viewing it, I wanted to become a fireman myself! The presentation is informative and exciting. I have a much greater appreciation for the application process to become a firefighter. I also appreciated the historical overview of the fire service and purchased another for my personal collection.
