Excellent!
I really love this horse game! I've played several horse games, (I'm an addict), and it's now my current favorite. The horses are realistic and the training and competitions are fun and challenging, especially the dressage! The controls for dressage are by far the most creative and I really like that you have to use the mouse for direction and the arrow keys for extension, collection and rhythm (this is most challenging). Only a few things I hope they improve on and that is I do wish there was more after finishing the 4 levels of competition; it would be nice if the breed/color selection was more customizable and to have an adventure option with a nice plot. I still find myself going back to the beginning and playing the game over again. Very fun and I recommend it to any horse fans out there.
Fairly Nice Game
Since this is the first computer video game I've ever owned, I gave it 4 stars, with nothing to compare it to. Where do I start? Good video, but occassionally gets slow right at a jump and you end up having a refusal. The horses are fairly realistic. You have to groom and feed the horse every time after you train or show or just ride out. You can ride up and down hills, gallop along a beach, actually ride into the streams, and cross bridges on the ride outside. For competition you get to select a name and color for your horse for each different phase. You choose a horse for Dressage, one for Show Jumping and one for Cross Country. As you progress thru the levels you get a reward of upgraded tack and show clothes. The mouse controls speed and jumping. The Right and Left arrows control direction and for Dressage the Up and Down arrows control extension and collection. Fairly decent tutorials for each phase to show you how to compete.
The upper level Dressage movements and upper level Show Jumping can be frustrating at times because of how you have to manipulate the arrow keys and mouse at the same time. Practice makes perfect though.
This could be a super game if they did some up grades, but it is fun and worth the money. I hated the fact that if you were doing poorly in the 2nd round of 3 in jumping, you couldn't start over at that level, but had to go all the way back to the 1st round, to start over. I would win the first jumping course, have a bad round on the second course and couldn't restart the second round, but get taken all the way back to the first round.
Personally, I would like to see water jumps, banks and slides on Cross Country. I would like to be able to see cows grazing in pastures, maybe birds flying, foxes running in the fields, instead of just sounds. The video lacks when you gallop fast and control is touchy for straightening a line in approaching a fence in Cross Country and Show Jumping. Once again though, you get use to it and practicing with the controls is a plus.
Overall, it's a decent game for the money. Get it and have fun!
Help
Let's Ride, Riding Star-- Why won't it let me go to the next training level?
When I try to go to the next area like from Lemby training or whatever its called to the next area's training it says I need to place top three in the Grand Prix before moving on. When I do the competitions, I can only click on 'Course 1' on the Competition Screen, but when I do the actual competition I do a Course 1 and Course 2; and in both, I've gotten 3rd place or higher. So, why isn't it letting me go to the next training area?
THanks
