A Fearsome New Friend
This awesome oversized, plastic dinosaur stands 27 inches tall, with textured green skin, a yellow underbelly, gnarly teeth, and plenty of serious spines--enough to make any young dino-enthusiast swoon. Before Spike is ready to roam the Earth, you'll need to snap his legs and tail into place. These pieces are color coded to prevent confusion, and the instruction booklet offers a nice illustration. Make sure all three connection points on each front leg are securely attached, otherwise he'll struggle to walk.

You'll also want to fully charge the included NiMH rechargeable battery before kids get their hands on this dinosaur, a process which may take up to four hours. With all the use Spike will be getting, you'll enjoy the long life of this power solution. The convenient wireless remote requires three AA batteries (not included) for operation.

Innovative and Easy to Control
As soon as you turn him on, spikes on this long-necked dinosaur's back and tail light up, and he starts blinking his eyes. Big, kid-friendly buttons on the durable remote control let you make Spike walk forward, turn left or right, and swing his neck around. At first he can be a little tricky to maneuver, but with just a few moments of practice, he becomes incredibly easy to control.

Holding down any one of the four middle buttons unleashes a new action. Pick between having him stand on his hind legs, swinging his neck around while unleashing a huge roar, or hanging his head low. Another button controls the motion of his jaw. Practice combining movements to snatch up the plastic boulders off the ground or toss them in the air (a skill we never perfected). There's even a mystery button that lets Spike pick any motion he wants to perform. Press it again and again to get a sense of his playful nature. Two modes let you pick between having continuous background music accompany play or just hearing occasional growls, snorts, and roars.

Durable and Adventurous
The well-crafted Spike was still going strong, even after our vigorous testing. We crashed him into table legs trying to make him crawl over obstacles that were just too high, and even though he might not have been happy about the way we dropped the remote control repeatedly, he kept right on doing all those dinosaur things that make him a fun addition to any family. While this ultra dinosaur held up well in the face of vigorous use, he could succumb to the rough reality of enthusiastic play and be damaged by children sitting on him or pulling apart his otherwise sturdy joints.

Spike's large size makes him a great outdoor playmate, but be sure to warn kids that, since he is battery-operated, he shouldn't play in streams or jump in puddles. Cooperative kids will love putting their heads together to think up new places for their friend dinosaur to explore. The height and length that make Spike so much fun may make it hard for smaller children to carry him around, especially if they are headed to a far off relative's house. While this dinosaur is recommended as a companion for children three through 10, even adults are likely to be charmed by Spike's fun-loving personality.

What's in the Box
Dinosaur, remote control, 9.6V NiMH rechargeable battery, battery charger, two plastic rocks, and a plastic bone.

This toy will sell out for Christmas! Get it now!5
We took our 3 year old son to the store to buy a new toy with his Piggy Bank savings and when he saw this toy on a store display, he wanted it immediately! It was so cool looking, we couldn't resist, so we pitched in the difference - we got it for $129.99. We have been playing with it for almost 2 hours straight now, and it is DEFINITELY worth the money! My son and 1 1/2 year old daughter absolutely LOVE it! I was amazed at how well it worked, and it is loaded with surprises, like going to sleep (yawning & snoring included) after 2 minutes of inactivity, and a music button that plays jungle-type music that is pretty neat.

My son is almost 4, and he is able to use the remote pretty well in making Spike do what he wants him to do. Unfortunatley, my 38 year old husband keeps hoarding the remote! This is a great entertainment piece if you have friends over, and I am sure this will be one toy that is not simply played with for five minutes and then tossed aside.

One thing to note: it takes 4 hours to charge the included battery, so pull that out early and charge if it will be a present. Also, you need 3 AA batteries for the remote (not included).

Rooooaaaarr Rooooaaaar ... Moose Meat! Moose Meat! ...5

I bought this toy for my 18 month old son, Fox. When he saw this thing while walking around Target one early Monday morning, he couldn't stop from hitting the big orange button on the front of the plastic case. About a half-hour later I was able to break free, but only after he understood that I was taking the Dinosaur box with me.

We have a lot of fun playing with the remote together. This is actually a toy that he can use without any problem or difficulty. He wakes up in the morning now and 'Roooaaaaarrrrs!!!!' ... runs out of bed and hits the activation button on the Dino's back to wake him up, which then gets a big yawn from his new green, plastic friend.

I had to explain to several relatives when they were shocked to see my Son "roaring". They didn't have a clue that he was 'playing Dino'. When I told them I bought him the Dinosaur toy from Target, I got a few raised eyebrows because I purchased it the first few days it was out and paid the $169.99 they were asking. I've now seen the price drop to $129.99 everywhere from Amazon to Wal-Mart. Strangely though, Wal-Mart is the only place that doesn't have the large plastic display for it, or at least not where I live and it's a Super-Wal-Maze.

'Spike' The Dino utters several guttural phrases like what sounds like 'moose meat' when he sniffs the ground. I'm hoping my son doesn't start to continually repeat 'moose meat!' either ;) , He also walks like an awkward beast and 'booms' with every step.

There's a button which turns on the 'jungle music'. Your toddler is sure to dance right along with it as mine does every time.

The Dino sounds are:

1. Laughing (Ha ha ha ha haaaaa)
2. Sneezing (Raaaa-chooo)
3. Sniffing (Sniff Sniff Sniff Sniff...)
4. Moose meat! Moose Meat! (or something similar, lol)
5. Grunting (Urgh urgh urgh urgh)
6. Giant Roars (Two Big Roars)
7. Booms (with every step he takes)
8. Music (Optional soft drumming, calypso like)
9. Sleeping snores (zzzz-zzzzz-zzzzz)
10. "Money Grubbin', Money Grubbin'" (at least that what it sounds like he says). I know, I know. It sure is funny though to hear it.

He does several other things like other grunt sounds, coughing, growling, the sound your dog makes while pulling on a rope, etc., it's a blast overall.

The spikes down the back are soft and not a real concern regarding touching or even lifting the toy at all.

The only real thing to be concerned about is when whipping the neck around with the controller, be careful not to get bonked in the head as I have a few times when I wasn't paying attention.

There's a volume adjustment on the device for either soft or loud and the soft isn't ear-splitting, but pleasant. The Loud isn't bad -- it's just loud, but not annoying.

This will easily be the best toy of the season and probably the most sought after in the coming months. I keep seeing the shelf empty at the three Target stores near my house (Indio, La Quinta and Palm Desert)

I have to recharge the main battery for four hours in the evening probably once every five days, depending on use. If you leave it on, the Dino automatically goes to sleep, and then switches off. The remote distance is about eight feet.

This is a great toy that your young one won't tire of. I wish I had this thing when I was a kid.

simply incredible!5
yes it's expensive, but my 4 yr old girl loves dinos. it is very interactive, it has a sense of humor and HUGE! if you have a dino loving kid and don't mind the cost, it's really a cool toy, also we don't live in an area that would stock a toy this pricey so ordering it online we saved and got an awesome toy. shouldn't be missed for dino lovers!
