Product Description

Twinings has been blending my family tea for years. Today, I am proud to continue this tradition with the tea celebrated throughout the world known as Twinings Earl Grey. Legend has it, that my ancestor, the second Earl Grey, was presented with this exquisite recipe by an envoy on his return from China. They are fine black tea expertly blended with the citrus fruit flavor of bergamot, to deliver an uplifting tea with a unique floral aroma and refreshing taste.

About the Brand
Since 1706, Twinings has been at the forefront of the tea trade. Customers in more than 100 countries enjoy Twinings products, and not just the popular traditional favorites: Twinings now includes products such as fruit and herbal infusions, aromatic teas, and iced teas. These fresh flavors reflect a worldwide trend toward a healthier and more varied lifestyle. The new flavors are as successful as the traditional ones, because Twinings prepares them using skills acquired through three centuries of experience. After quenching thirsts for so many generations, no one knows better than Twinings how to deliver a drink that's in perfect condition. Although British-based, and still operating in England, Twinings also has plants in North Carolina and Calcutta, India. Success in the competitive worldwide tea market was confirmed in 1972 (and again in 1977) when Twinings became the first tea company to win a Queen's Award for Export.

Customer Reviews

Good value--weak tea4
I ordered this product because of the value and that it is sometimes a challenge to find Twinings decaf tea. However, if you like the traditional (stronger) Earl Grey tea, be aware that this tea is the "lite" version. It states right on the box that it is a milder version and not as strong. (I don't think this is noted on the web description.) I just let it brew a little longer, but it is still not as strong as the original version. So if you like strong tea, I would not order this (at least in the decaf version).

Mello flavor, delicous Earl Grey5
Some Earl grey tea's can be too flowery, but this blend is a perfect balance of flavor. I love the way the flavor of the rich black tea hides behind the bergamot and other flavors.
We offered this at my son's wedding and I still hear great comments about it.
Even people who didn't care for tea enjoyed the flavor and aroma of this.
May I also comment it is a favorite of Jean-Luc Picard, "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot."

Finally, the perfect Earl Grey5
Finally, the perfect Earl Grey! I've tried a number of popular brands and those shall remain un-named. They were so strong, coarse even, or on the other hand, totally insipid, that they were not enjoyable. Some were quite literally nauseating if not consumed with a fair amount of food. Way too much bergamot.

For several years I gave up trying to find out why there was so much fuss about Earl Grey that it had even become such a fixture in Star Trek The Next Generation. I love most teas, but just couldn't learn to love this one. It did not make sense. Then, on whim I bought a box of Twinings Earl Grey Decaf because I liked so many of their other teas. Ah, bliss.

This Earl Grey is light, delicate, citrusy, refreshing, goes well with and without food, and is not the least bit nauseating. It tastes just as good hot or on ice. Perfection!

Now I understand what all the fuss is about. Earl Grey is a lovely tea, but you have to find the version that suits you. For those who like a light and refreshing tea, this is perfect. For those who like a very bold and stimulating tea, this is not the Earl Grey for you. Vive la difference!
