Gr. 3-6. In this sequel to Leon and the Spitting Image (2003), fifth-grader Leon Zeisel plans to take revenge upon his nemesis, bully Henry Lumpkin, by using an animated soft-sculpture doll. Despite earlier success with a figure of his fourth-grade teacher, Leon's "Lumpy" action figure doesn't work, and as Leon tries to correct the doll's problems, he becomes sidetracked by a science curriculum revolving around potato chips and a plan to save science teacher Franklin Sparks from termination. When success finally comes, revenge is sweet. Although technically a fantasy (Lumpy becomes animated in part by an application of spit), the story contains a great deal of accurate science. Quirky but likable characters, a focus on fifth-grade preoccupations (including wedgies), and some very bad puns will further endear this story to its intended audience. Kay Weisman

Allen Kurzweil is the prize-winning author of two novels for adults—A Case of Curiosities and The Grand Complication—and two works of fiction for children—Leon and the Spitting Image and Leon and the Champion Chip. A recipient of numerous grants and awards, including fellowships from the Guggenheim and Fulbright Foundations and the New York Public Library Center for Scholars and Writers, Kurzweil is currently a fellow at the John Nicholas Brown Center for the Study of American Civilization at Brown University. He lives in Providence, Rhode Island, with his wife and son.

I liked this book
This book picks up where Leon and the Spitting Image leaves off. Leon is in fifth grade. He has two friends, P.W. and Lily Matisse. He collects potato chip bags. His science teacher, Mr. Sparks, asked Leon and his classmates what their hobbies were. Leon says, "potato chips"! Mr. Sparks says the class can spend the rest of the year learning about potato chips. And that is just what they do. On one occasion, Mr. Sparks takes the class on a field trip to a potato chip factory. It is funny because Lumpkin eats "president-shaped" potato chips. The book includes drawings of all 42 presidents as potato chips.

I liked this book because it was very funny.

A very interesting book
This book is great!!! It includes a bully named Lumpkin,a boy named Leon, two of Leon's friends named P.W. and Lily-Matisse, a wacky science teacher named Mr.Sparks and many more characters. While at home Leon and his friends are doing an experiment and preparing for a contest, at school Leon and his classmates have the wackiest techer ever. He takes off his shirt during class, tells his students not to use textbooks and he lets his stiudents pick the topic that they would be studying that year which ended up being potato chips. Leon loves having Mr. Sparks as a teacher but parents start wanting to fire him. Leon and his classmates were going to have to prove to their parents for once and for all that Mr.Sparks is a great teacher.
