Product Description

Leon's back. Having survived the sweatshop methods of Miss Hagmeyer, his needle-wielding fourth grade teacher at the Classical School, Leon braces himself for fifth grade. He arrives armed with a backpack full of pens and pencils, binders and notebooks . . . plus a rag doll that's the spitting image of Henry Lumpkin, the bully who has Leon in his sights. If the doll works the way it's supposed to, Leon (and his buddies P.W. and Lily-Matisse) won't have to worry about Lumpkin the Pumpkin!

Better still, Leon has a fabulous new teacher, Mr. Sparks, who conducts science experiments using that most miraculous of research materials -- the potato chip. And a good thing, too. Mr. Sparks's lab work will come in handy when Leon is forced to take on Alphonse "The Chippopotamus" Cipollini at the annual Chipapalooza! Chip-Off.

Once you've sunk your teeth into Leon and the Champion Chip, the hilarious sequel to Leon and the Spitting Image, you'll never eat potato chips the same way again!

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6–This sequel to Leon and the Spitting Image (HarperCollins, 2003) offers the same laughs and preponderance of plot points involving saliva. Here, Leon Zeisel, potato-chip collector extraordinaire, works hard to create a voodoo doll powered by spit that will give school bully Lumpkin a turbowedgie. In the meantime, an invigorating and unorthodox new science teacher gets his class involved in a semester of studying Leons beloved snack, and the fifth grader enters the Chipapalooza, a potato-chip trivia and taste-test competition. Leons friends Lily-Matisse and P.W. continue to be his abettors, and he still lives in his mothers hotel with an extended family of employees and often-bizarre animals traipsing through the hallways. Playful drawings throughout, including presidential portrait chips on the endpapers, add greatly to the fun. Kids will enjoy this rollicking comedy.–B. From Booklist
Gr. 3-6. In this sequel to Leon and the Spitting Image (2003), fifth-grader Leon Zeisel plans to take revenge upon his nemesis, bully Henry Lumpkin, by using an animated soft-sculpture doll. Despite earlier success with a figure of his fourth-grade teacher, Leon's "Lumpy" action figure doesn't work, and as Leon tries to correct the doll's problems, he becomes sidetracked by a science curriculum revolving around potato chips and a plan to save science teacher Franklin Sparks from termination. When success finally comes, revenge is sweet. Although technically a fantasy (Lumpy becomes animated in part by an application of spit), the story contains a great deal of accurate science. Quirky but likable characters, a focus on fifth-grade preoccupations (including wedgies), and some very bad puns will further endear this story to its intended audience. Kay Weisman

Customer Reviews

I liked this book4
This book picks up where Leon and the Spitting Image leaves off. Leon is in fifth grade. He has two friends, P.W. and Lily Matisse. He collects potato chip bags. His science teacher, Mr. Sparks, asked Leon and his classmates what their hobbies were. Leon says, "potato chips"! Mr. Sparks says the class can spend the rest of the year learning about potato chips. And that is just what they do. On one occasion, Mr. Sparks takes the class on a field trip to a potato chip factory. It is funny because Lumpkin eats "president-shaped" potato chips. The book includes drawings of all 42 presidents as potato chips.

I liked this book because it was very funny.

A very interesting book5
This book is great!!! It includes a bully named Lumpkin,a boy named Leon, two of Leon's friends named P.W. and Lily-Matisse, a wacky science teacher named Mr.Sparks and many more characters. While at home Leon and his friends are doing an experiment and preparing for a contest, at school Leon and his classmates have the wackiest techer ever. He takes off his shirt during class, tells his students not to use textbooks and he lets his stiudents pick the topic that they would be studying that year which ended up being potato chips. Leon loves having Mr. Sparks as a teacher but parents start wanting to fire him. Leon and his classmates were going to have to prove to their parents for once and for all that Mr.Sparks is a great teacher.

TO FIND OUT MORE READ THE BOOK BECAUSE IT IS A GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!
