Horace, Quintus Horatius Flaccus (65–8 BC), friend of Virgil patronized by Maecenus, is considered the leading lyrical poet of the Augustan Age.

Persius, Aules Persius Flaccus (AD 34–62), Roman poet and satirist, was rich and well connected to several members of the Stoic opposition to Nero’s rule.
