Spot is one of the essential experiences of childhood. -- Parents Magazine

About the Author
Eric Hill was born in North London in 1927 and, apart from a brief period of evacuation, lived there for many years. His career as an artist began when he was employed as a messenger in an art studio and was encouraged to draw. Eric's son was born in 1976 and he began to write stories about a puppy to read to him at bedtime, and so Spot was born. The family moved to California in 1983 but Eric continues to visit the UK several times a year and is very involved in developing Spot projects.

Customer Reviews

Good, but not as good as `Where's Spot?'4
Although `Where's Spot' is my son's absolute favourite book, this did not meet with the same degree of enthusiasm.

That's not to say he doesn't like it, just not as much as `Where's Spot?' ... maybe it's the repetitive text in that one or maybe the novelty value was worn down, but both `Spot goes to the Farm' and `Spot Visits his Grandparents' seem to work as a "side-dish" for him i.e. only good alongside `Where's Spot', though does read both more often than most of his other books.

All in all, I'd say buy this book, but with `Where's Spot?'

Spot - fun and educational5
My toddler daughter loves this book. She enjoys the pictures and themes (grandparents and grandchild spending quality time together) and routinely selects this book herself. This Spot book has large lift-the-flaps which makes it easy for even a baby to manipulate. Through repetition and pictures, my daughter has learned words such as dog, ball, and bird. I have been pleased that she has learned new words from the book, and I also enjoy the story itself which reminds me of the innocent time of childhood summers with grandparents!

Very entertaining for littlies...4
My baby daughter loves Spot and she really seemed to enjoy this story. Cute pictures and a sweet story combine for a good reading experience.
