Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS-K--Lovable Kipper is back, this time in four concept books. The beauty of these titles is in their simplicity--bright primary colors and simple forms make them very appealing. In Colors, the brown-and-white dog flies a blue kite and eats red strawberries. In Numbers, he feeds four hens and digs holes with six moles. Opposites captures the happy-faced pup with a big balloon and his sad expression when it pops. Weather shows him basking in the sun and splashing in the rain. The lively watercolor illustrations lend themselves to simple one-on-one interaction or to use in toddler story hour. While concept books abound, Inkpen's engaging character and clear, clean presentations make these charming offerings stand above the crowd.

New Spin on Opposites5
I was recently introduced to Kipper by my three year nephew who loves Kipper. I was so impressed with the videos that I immediately went to look for the books for a new baby in my family. I love the way the author puts a new spin on an old concept. I've also purchased Kipper's Book of Color, Numbers and Weather and can't wait to read them all to my new niece or nephew!

offers endless possibilities for creative teaching5
I teach English as a foreign language in Korea. I checked out a Korean translation of this book and read it in English to my students. I noticed that each word in the book had a sign language equivalent, so I taught them to say all the words in sign language. Then we made up a song from the book. Then we made up an action song using antonyms such as strong/weak and mean/nice.

great5
the Kipper books are all great and we especially love the little board book series (counting/numbers, colors, weather, opposites). For under age three I think you can't go wrong with these. If you are also doing early reading skills- these books are AWESOME. Calming but fun, colorful but clear, the illustrations are enjoyable for child and parent. Each page has one easy to read word on it. These are excellent first reading books.

Even if some of the examples are a little over your wee one's head at first- they will love the pictures and want to talk about it and look at it on their own.
