Gordon the goat didn't care much what he did or why he did it until he ran smack into a tornado.

Customer Reviews

As an adult, I still remember and think about this book.5
I read Gordon the Goat as a child in school, and was captured by it. The pictures were simple and the text very easy to understand as a child. But the theme is what stuck with me. Gordon just did what every other goat did, but never knew why. After he had his eye opening experience, he learned to think for himself, take the conseqences into consideration first before acting, and decided not to just "go with the flow". At my young age, I remember learning from Gordon, and deciding to always do my best to think for myself and make decisions based on better things rather than "that's the way everyone else does it." I loved the book and wished I still had my copy. Even though it's out of print, I'd still like to obtain a copy. I've told the story to my class at school, but I wish I could find a copy to show them the real Gordon the Goat.

I also LOVED this book5
I completly agree with "a reader" who loved this book as a child. I purchased this book in second grade through a book club and 30 years later can still remember the story and illustrations vividly. I even colored in the pictures in my copy and had it with me up through college until it was lost during a move. The message of this story -- don't follow the crowd -- sticks with me even today. This book NEEDS to be back in print. Until then, I'll search for a used copy for my kids.

Be your own goat5
My opinions reflect the other reviewers. I would disagree with the reading level suggested by Amazon (age 9-12) for two reasons. One, the text is fairly simple. Second, the lessons of the book are better learned early. It's the kind of logic a child needs to arm him or herself with before the slings and arrows of (pre-)adolescence start flying. I believe I read this book at 4 or 5, and would recommend it for younger, precocious readers.

I wish I could post my scans of the cover, but Amazon will not let you post unless you buy something...very silly idea.
