Help for beginning to intermediate users4
This combined book and set of sample files is a perfect match for the Photoshop/Premier Elements software bundle. It is serving as a great help for me as I transition from traditional to digital photography. Most of the exercises are easy to follow, and the "hands-on" nature provides actual practice without the possibility of ruining personal images or film files.

The lessons progress from very basic to intermediate skills in a consistent manner. I found most of the instruction to be more than adequate.

Some of the exercises require multiple readings and trials to fully comprehend and incorporate into developing skill sets; but then I suppose that's the point. "Practice makes perfect."

My reason for four versus five stars is rooted in the somewhat confusing explanations on occasion. Overall, this book and software set is something that is essential for those who are beginning their foray into digital photography.

Good overall text, teaches you features that you can apply right away4
This is the second edition of this series I have purchased, the last book covered Photoshop 6 and Premier Elements 4. What I like about this text was it did short overviews of old features but got right in to teaching you about the new features. The DVD included with the text is a very important tool. It gives you illustrated examples of finished movies, and then shows you how to put them together yourself. I would not buy an Adobe upgrade without buying the text also. Money well spent.

The DVD does not work2
I purchased this book along with the software so I could learn how to use the applications. To take the lessons described in the book requires copying the files from a DVD that comes with the book. Unfortunately, many of the files will not copy to my hard drive. In fact, I couldn't even select them from Windows Explorer without causing a crash. I'm very disappointed since I need those files to take the lessons. I emailed Adobe Press about the problem, but haven't received any response.
