Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
In this Step into Reading book, Norma Jean, kangaroo, jumps past her friends on the way to school. And her jumping gets in the way of playshe knocks down frog Neal'stower of blocks, spills pig Sara's milk, bounces Ted the bear off the seesaw and splashes a cross porcupine named Amy out of her pool. One mean remark from a friend, and Norma Jean has had it. She starts walking through puddles instead of jumping, and declining jump roping and jumping contests on Field Day. But when good-hearted Norma Jean cheers for her friends, she just has to jump; the kangaroo regains her congenital itch to hop. A winning story about the natural traits of individuals and the recognition of true identity; readers will see that there's no point in going against the grain. Munsinger's animalsannoyed, then overjoyedare some of the most endearing around. Ages 58.

Good Choice as a Read Out Loud Story!
This book has adorable illustrations which make it easy for younger children to follow along the storyline of Norma Jean (a Kangaroo)who learns the hard way that there is a time and place for everything. The easy to read format makes it a good choice for beginning readers. Also, adults will like this story as it is just the right length for a bedtime story.
Norma Jean, Jumping Bean
Norma Jean, Jumping Bean By: Joanna Cole is a superior book. The story is about how a kangaroo named Norma starts to make her friends upset due to her constant jumping. So, she stops jumping all together. Then one day at school, Norma's teacher says that there will be a field day at school. After that, everyone at school signs up for all of their favorite events, except for Norma. That day, everyone at school now wants Norma to jump again. Will Norma begin to jump again, and will she sign up for field day?
I would rate the book 5 stars out of 5 stars. When I read the book, it made me curious of what would happen next, and it never got boring. Even though this book is for younger ages, I still enjoy the book as a 7th grader!
Love this book!
This is the first book I read as a youngster. I was so proud that I read it outloud to my parents! Now at 26, I'm buying the same book for my friends little ones.
