From AudioFile
"Predictable" and "formulaic" aptly describe this Arthur Hailey novel, which follow a cast of characters whose loves and lives converge at the luxurious St. Gregory Hotel in New Orleans. Yet through skillful abridgment and Victor Garber's ability to depict characters with various accents, this fast-paced audiobook is quite enjoyable. It would make great listening for a long trip. Hotel: Surprising complex and thought provoking
Wow! I was not expecting this book to be so rich in detail, context, theme and character development. On one level it's just a very descriptive outline of 5 days in the life of a luxury hotel in New Orleans in the early 1960s. Hotel also takes a critical stance in the civil rights issues of the era. Through carefully crafted characters, it comes out pro-desegregation but does it without wielding a heavy hand. Then at the individual characters and vignettes, the book is about karma and how little decissions can add up to either good things happening or extremely bad things happening.
Amazing! One of the best books I have ever read!
This is Arthur Hailey at the top of his form. I have never read a book that was so engrossing with characters with such great development. The plot never stops going, right until the very end. The plot twists were ones I never thought of. I love this book!
One of the best books ever written
For fans of books and the tv show LOST on abc. This is a very vivid, amazing book. Hotel weaves many stories together with an ending that will knock your socks off. Like Airport(and many other Hailey books), the last hundred pages will have your heart racing and your blood pressure rising. GREAT book
