Customer Reviews

Use with extreme caution2
Like more than a few people, I have taken the L.A.R.E vignettes more than once and attended two training workshops for the exam. The problems and solutions offered, only 4, are not solutions (particularly Sect. C.) I believe would merit a passing score on the exam. The ones for Section C are also very elementary compared to the problems in section C on the real L.A.R.E. If the problems for section C are correct then the other material from P.P.I. must be incorrect. The book also provides no rationale for passing or failing solutions. P.P.I. is worth investing in. Why can't someone publish a useful book for this exam? After spending 80+dollars on this I wish someone else had written a review before so I could have saved my money. If you are on your first round of the L.A.R.E. this book may offer a few helpful hints, don't expect much more. Master the L.A.R.E.? Still looking for clarification on these less than clear sections of the test.

Total Waste of Money1
It amazes me that the title of this book is "Everything You Need to Know About the LARE". Big waste of money. $85...3 nice bottles of wine...or one review course...or a CLARB design vignette....anything but this... Uses 11 x17 format just to waste more trees. Devotes pages to giving addresses to all the state boards...give me a break. I felt like I was reading a term paper with a minimum number of pages required to submit...lot of filler. The vignettes are vague and lacking detail not to mention solution. In LARE testing terms...I give this a 3 score.......Ha! Sorry to be so harsh but it is absolutely absurd that there are not sufficient study materials in terms of vignettes and review for this exam. And the fact the author used to be the former executive of CLARB explains why there is insufficient test study material for this exam--Sorry to the author to be so harsh...but come on...as former directer...you should be able to do better than this...this ranks down there with LARE Secrets....

Shame on Wiley for printing this!

Light on content and worthless vignettes1
I agree with the previous reviewer, although I am not as forgiving. The book has little content that is not already available from other sources and there are only four vignettes; two for Section C and two for Section E. The best way to prepare for these exams is to do vignettes over and over and to have possible answers presented to you that discuss correct solutions as well as likely pitfalls. The four vignettes presented in this book lack adequate discussion and do not represent the difficulty of problems likely to be seen on the exam.

The solutions offer no explanation and, in the case of the first Section C vignette, show paths and trees within the active recreation setback. An oversight that contradicts the April 08 LARE reference manual. There is no excuse for having these types of errors in an expensive study guide.

I recommend against buying this book.
