Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Anna Roosevelt is a great American hero. Her traits are wonderful as she is respectful, encourageable, kindhearted, unselfish, and friendly. Eleanor was born on October 11, 1884 in the high class family of Elliot Roosevelt and Anna Hall. She grew up with no parents, since they died when she was a young age, and lived with her Grandmother. Then, she went to a boarding school outside of England called, Allenswood. After that, she met Franklin Delano Roosevelt, her second cousin, and they were married. Their first child died and they had five more. She helped President Roosevelt through the Great Depression and through World War II as he was sick with polio. She wrote a few books at the very end of her life and finally died on November 7, 1962. Eleanor Roosevelet was 78 years old.
I gave this book three stars out of a five star rating but out of a ten star rating I would give it a five. I didn't like this book because it seemed like basic facts and the author didn't say things in an interesting way. I fell asleep reading some parts because too many facts made it so boring. But there were a few interesting lines in the book like, "The Roosevelts sons, all of whom were in the service, had advised their mother 'Don't eat every meal with the brass.'" I didn't really understand that, but the way the sons would say it and the way the Sharon Whitney said it, I thought it gave more flavor to the story. I also liked this one thing Eleanor saw personally. "In England, Ireland, and Scotland, Eleanor observed military training for women. She saw them servicing cars and trucks, loading guns, and flying airplanes from one base to another to be camoflouged and repaired." I really think that is a powerful qoute because it seems like it is saying that women are finally taking a stand.
I would recommend this book to people who love to read about historic events and herioc people. This book didn't only talk about Eleanor Roosevelt, but it explained the facts about her relationships and the events in the time. I'm not a social studies, fact, or history person, so when my teacher told us to do a book report on an important person, I chose Eleanor Roosevelt which led to my finding this book. So, if you are a historic freak and love reading about social studies, you should read this book! If you are not sure about reading this book, choose another book in your interest!!!!
