After losing her unborn baby at the hands of her abusive husband, Kendra Salvatori flees from him to Black Mountain, North Carolina. She collapses in the barn of Garth Fisher, who rescues Kendra from near-death and nurses her back to health.
When Kendra is fully recovered, she insists on leaving, aware that her husband, Tony Salvatori, head of a small but very powerful criminal organization, will eventually locate her. Kendra and Garth are by this time in love with one another and Kendra is very fearful of what Tony will do to Garth if he finds her with him.
Garth persuades Kendra to stay with him, convincing her that they are in a safe place that is not easily accessible. Because Kendra is so frightened of what will happen when her husband finds her, Garth and Kendra begin to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the battle they know they will eventually face.

Review
The action and drama build until the exhilirating conclusion that left me breathless. Outstanding job, Ms. French! -- Kathy Bosworth, Book Reviewer, Denise's Pieces, October, 2003
This is a fast-paced, suspenseful story with compelling characters. French writes with a wealth of feeling and understanding... -- Barbara Buhrer, Book Reviewer, Myshelf.com, December, 2003
From the Author
"Chasing Demons" deals with a serious subject matter: domestic abuse. My goal was to portray one woman's struggle to become stronger mentally and physically in order to face her abusive husband and take a stand for herself and her freedom from him.
I have always loved the Black Mountains of North Carolina. My father was raised in the area, and as a child, each summer, I would spend time there with my grandmother. The area is rich in culture, with great charm and beautiful scenery. I was glad the opporunity this book presented to incorporate the Black Mountains range into a story.

Action packed!!
Ms French delivers yet another gem for her rapidly growing list of fans to devour. CHASING DEMONS is a fast-paced, smooth read that I found fascinating and impossible to put down. It does what good fiction should do; entertain the reader from beginning to end.
Kendra Salvatori is married to the boss of a small crime organization. After years of enduring Tony's brutality, she manages to escape. The parallel stories that materialize are perfectly blended. The gritty, violent side of organized crime is shown by Tony's determination to find Kendra by any means possible. On the flip side, the reader follows Kendra's will to survive and to explore the new, gentle relationship with the man who saved her life. The reader can easily feel many emotions due to strong character development and the unique writing style of the author. This one has it all; mystery, suspense, romance, and a creative plot.
I challenge any reader to try to put this book down once they start to read it. The action and drama build until the exhilarating conclusion that left me breathless. Outstanding job Ms French. I eagerly anticipate your next book. You are setting the bar very high for yourself.

Best Kind of Romantic Suspense
Since there are several descriptions, I'll skip that part. The climax to "Chasing Demons", when Tony locates Kendra and forces her to leave with him, where Garth is tracking them and finally finds them, where Vincent is doing his own kind of tracking, were so suspenseful, I found myself holding my breath and reading as fast as I could. The story building to the climax is wonderful - a love story between two people who are chasing their own demons.
I didn't know what chasing demons meant until my aunt, who lives in the South, explaned it to me: nightmares about traumatic events in your life. I love this title.
Wonderful book.
Action-Packed Romantic Suspense!
I read this author's first two novels and have been on the lookout for more from her, so soon as I read she had another book coming out, I pre-ordered it directly from her publisher. You never know what to expect from French. Her first book was a romantic comedy with a smidgeon of suspense, her second was a psychological thriller, and now, "Chasing Demons", which is romantic suspense packed with action.
This is a great book. Filled with characters you love and those you hate. Tony Salvatori is evil personified and his wife Kendra is his direct opposite - a woman of quiet resolve and faith. Garth Fisher is a man who is trying to come to terms with a past mistake and makes a commitment to himself to protect Kendra from her vicious husband, who goes on the rampage as he tries to find her. Vinnie is a cold-hearted killer who, feeling sympathy for Kendra, helps her escape from her abusive husband and does his best to try to keep Tony from finding her.
I could not put this book down. As usual, French writes in a concise, fast-paced way. The last chapters are suspense-filled and action packed. Great book by an author I love to read. I wonder what's next?
