Absolutely Beautiful...
These black and white photographs of jazz greats and originators are beautiful and poignant. I love the photos of the artists in action, often in smoke-filled nighclubs. More than those photos, I adore the behind the scenes photos. There are serious and real sides of Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong captured here, that the public never had a chance to see. I received this book twenty something years ago. I was too shy to ask Alvin Jones and Max Roach to sign it when I saw them perform (seperate gigs). But, as a young twenty-something, I had the nerve ask and have Joe Williams sign his photograph. I'm requesting another copy on my wish list so that I can frame several of the prints for my home. It's really a "must have".
