Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6?After Jesse purchases a doll he is mysteriously drawn to, he gets more than he bargained for when the toy comes to life and takes the form of his aggravating teacher, Mrs. Fink. Feeling guilty about the subsequent accidents and problems that she presumably causes, he begins to take responsibility, problem solve, and study, none of which he had done before. The situation climaxes as the doll gains more and more power, and Jesse and his friend devise a plan to get rid of it. All ends happily with Jesse having a better understanding of Mrs. Fink, himself, and his family. Although voodoo, possession, and the supernatural do not dominate the story, they serve as the vehicles for the fast-paced action. Jesse is a typical fifth grader with all of the preteen growing pains that boys his age seem to face, yet he surfaces stronger for all that he has experienced. An intriguing read for paperback collections.?Cheryl Cufari, N.A. Walbran Elementary School, Oriskany, NY
