From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8?Although the plot is predictable, this book offers vivid descriptions that should hold the attention of even reluctant readers. After 12-year-old Maggie's father is injured on the family's homestead, her mother must get him to town for help. At the same time, Maggie's spoiled city-bred cousin Hadyn decides to head home to St. Louis and gets lost. It is then up to Maggie to find him. In the face of a sudden unrelenting Rocky Mountain blizzard, the young people exhibit dogged perseverance as they endure agonizing suffering and, at times, outright fear. No one will be surprised when, at story's end, the two cousins have reversed their roles and have come to understand one another better in the process. Maggie, emotionally and physically spent with the burden of their survival, now leans on Hadyn for support and he, in turn, tries to do more to pull his weight and eventually admits that their predicament is his fault. There is no miraculous rescue; the two finally stagger onto Maggie's homestead and must face chores to be done, a hearth to warm, and animals to feed. However, now Maggie and Hadyn approach them as a team. An easy story to booktalk.?Peggy Morgan, The Library Network, Southgate,

A gripping survival story that had me on the edge of my seat5
When Maggie's father, a rancher in 1886 Colorado, is injured, Maggie's mother takes him to town to see a doctor. That leaves Maggie alone with her spoiled city cousin, Hadyn, who is visting Colorado as a punishment for being expelled from school. Hadyn and Maggie have a fight, and Hadyn runs away, determined to find the train station. When Maggie learns Hadyn never made it to town, in spite of hating him, she sets out to find him in the wilderness. But a blizzard descends upon the mountains, trapping Hadyn and Maggie in a harsh and unforgiving wilderness. If they are going to survive and find their way home, Hadyn and Maggie have to work together. This was an excellant survival story in a historical setting.

I loved it!5
This was the story of Maggie and Hadyn, cousins that just can't seem to get along. Hadyn has come to live with Maggie's family and one night Maggie's father gets hurt. Her Mother takes him down to the town for him to see the doctor. That leaves Maggie and Hadyn alone. They have an arguement and Hadyn decides to go to the train station-by walking. But he sees a mountain lion and runs farther and farther off the track. Maggie discovers Hadyn never made it to town and sets out to find him. Can they battle winds and snowslides? The snowslide was terrifying I just couldn't put the book down! Maggie was a great character.

Bone-CHILLING! 5
The SURVIVAL! books are cool! Don't believe all those "they're boring" reports. True, some are predictable, but some books are just like that. What good authors do is write the story in such as way that even predictable plots are exciting because you want to see how it will play out.

Book #3, Blizzard, is one of the best. I've read five of these books, and this ranks among the top. The vivid descriptions of Maggie's and Hadyn's fear-filled fight for survival in an uncanny, white wilderness is really bone-CHILLING!
